yes, it is cool to hit a guy then have him jack a homer of you next pitch and yell at him while he rounds the bases, supposadly tell him to run the bases like rolen, shake your little finger after you strike someone out who hit a homer off you in the previous at bat (from an offensive standpoitn ill take 1-2, HR, K anyday), and then get your wish with rolen taking you yard to win the game in which was a must win game for the cubs to win the division.

amazing how quiet it is in here with the cubs struggling

must be first rate seating available on the old cubbie bandwagon

Ahh, the New York bias. Poor New York. Perhaps he should have stopped in the heat of the moment, and removed his mask, chest padding, helmet, and leg guards. Like they do in hockey.

it has absolutely nothing to do with new york bias... catchers can take their masks off "in the heat of the moment" on a popfly behind home plate, but he can't take it off before he gets into a fight... no problem... he tried to pick a-rod up and body slam him ala bill lee but couldn't get him off the ground. classy by nixon, ortiz and kapler to triple team sturtz. this was a planned thing by the sox... it's obvious. arroyo throws inside on one pitch causing a-rod to have to get out of the way. the very next pitch he throws in the same spot, just even more inside and hits him. if that's what they think they need to do to light a fire under their underachieving asses, then so be it.

watch francona keep varitek out of the game tonight to keep him from getting plunked... pansies.

Actually, I followed other Cubs Fans/interferencers lead and decided not post about the Cubs in here because the Cards fans are just too annoying!

True Cubs fans are loyal, no matter how horrible they play...its been like that forever though.

Ah yes, I can see the pregame meeting..."we need to get in a brawl today, somewhere say in the 3rd inning, and lets pick a fight with A-rod, and 'Tek...make sure to get injured in the fight and force us to call Andy Dominique up from Pawtucket to back up Mirabelli for a while."

Yeah New Yorkers have an interesting point of view.

Anyway...if I'm Calzone Steinbrenner and my team just scored 24 runs in 3 games and lost 2 of 3, I'm very concerned. Rumor has it the Statue of Liberty has been offered to the D'Backs for the Unit (As part of the deal, Unit has to spend the offseason standing in the harbor holding a bic lighter in the air)

scary stuff....

Report: Giambi tests for potentially fatal disease

ESPN.com news services

Yankees first baseman Jason Giambi is undergoing tests for a potentially fatal condition sometimes caused by intestinal parasites, his personal trainer told the Newark Star Ledger.

"He told me, 'I don't care about even hitting .220. I just want to feel better,' " Bob Alejo told the newspaper for a story published in Monday's editions. "He's exhausted, and it's not getting any better."

Giambi is being tested for a parasite called entamoeba histolytica, Alejo said, which can cause a potentially fatal condition called amebiasis. The parasite can be transmitted through water and food, among other ways, and it can embed itself in the intestinal lining, making it undetectable except by very specific tests, according to the Star Ledger's report.

Giambi has been tested for cancer and HIV in the last week. Both tests came back negative.

Giambi is scheduled to see another infectious disease specialist on Monday and will undergo specific tests for E. Histolytica, the newspaper reported. The results of those tests will determine whether the Yankees decide to put Giambi on the disabled list again.

There is concern that Giambi, who has missed 13 starts this season, might have to sit out the remainder of the season to rest. He's sat out four of New York's last five games; Giambi started at first base Friday in Boston but skipped the remaining two games of the series. He is hitless in his last 19 at-bats.

hmmm, that didnt seem to stop the cubs fans from posting when the cubs were winning, and im sure i was annoying then too

and im not sure if id call going to games to get drunk and go to the bars afterwards because its the hip thing to do "loyalty"

im sure i was annyoing too

ok, so with the trade deadline this week, where does RJ end up?

i say the D'backs are retarded and keep him and try to build around a 40 year old pitcher and get no parts in return. the yankees have nothing to give to get him, their farm sucks, the halos won't part with dallas mcpherson, the cardinals probably can't afford the contract although jocketty pulled the same sort of thing with rolen 2 years ago, he says he doesnt want to go to the red sox even though woody paige said the red sox have jumped in the battle, and im sure he doesnt want to go to the mutts. white sox maybe?

Cubs fans here at the board that post often....:hmm:

Me and screamer. And she hasn't posted anything about the Cubs in a LONG time. I wonder why?

And as for ANNOYING: Annoying is taking a broad brush-stroke to lump every fan into one category! Good job. Yes...EVERYONE goes to a Cubs game, gets drunk and goes to the bar. Right. You know EXACTLY what is going on then. I am sure the families there are all trashed off of their asses (even the toddlers) by the seventh inning. I am SURE of it.

It is loyalty....it is a way of life and part of the culture of Chicago. And you do not see the stands filled in ANY other stadium, day in and day out, despite what the team's record may be, like you do at Clark and Addison. It is because Cubs fans KNOW what it is all about.

CINCINNATI - The Cardinals have decided to make Class A Palm Beach the starting point for lefthander Rick Ankiel's rehab assignment. Ankiel, who had ligament transplant surgery on his left elbow last July, has been working at the team's spring training complex in Jupiter, Fla. Barring complications in the next few days, he is ready to begin a 30-day assignment.

General manager Walt Jocketty said, "He's going to work his way up. Physically he's 100 percent and his arm is very strong. Everything else has been good as well. His command is there."

Manager Tony La Russa said Tuesday that the organization plans to promote Ankiel to St. Louis when rosters expand in September, should the lefthander continue to make progress.

Ankiel hasn't pitched for the Cardinals since May 2001 and last appeared in a minor-league game last July. He worked 10 relief appearances and 10 starts at Tennessee before having surgery in Los Angeles July 16. Though La Russa said Ankiel would pitch in the major-league team's bullpen if able to compete, the lefthander apparently will be a starter during his rehab, according to Jocketty.

Ankiel, who turned 25 last week, won 11 games as a rookie member of the Cardinals' starting rotation in 2000 but has since made only six major-league starts.

Jocketty couldn't offer a hard timetable, saying, "It depends on how he does." However, he said Ankiel will make at least two starts at Palm Beach before the club considers promoting him to Class AA.

Rick Ankiels return to glory started today. His line in single A ball:

ST. LOUIS -- The National League's best offense is going to get even better. The Cardinals acquired outfielder Larry Walker and cash considerations from the Colorado Rockies for minor league right-hander Jason Burch and two players to be named later.
Walker, 37, has been one of the NL's most feared hitters for more than a decade, and his left-handed stroke is still potent. He's hitting .324 with a .464 on-base percentage and a .630 slugging percentage for the Rockies this year, with six homers, three triples and nine doubles in 108 at-bats. Walker has 20 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

"We are excited to have a proven contributor such as Larry Walker join us as we continue our push for a division title," Cardinals general manager Walt Jocketty said. "We feel that Larry's exceptional talents and experience serve as a perfect match for our team. Adding Larry's abilities to the core of All-Star performers we already have in place should make for an exciting second half to the season."

Walker is owed the remaining one-third of a $12.5 million salary this year and another $12.5 million in 2005. He has a $1 million buyout on a 2006 option also valued in the eight figures.

It has been reported that Colorado will assume approximately $9 million of the remaining $17 million-plus remaining on the deal.

he is still owed 17 million left for this year and next, for an older, injury prone player, nobody wanted to risk it

the rockies will pick up 9 million of the 17 million for the cardinals, not too shabby

With considerably less fanfare than accompanied his 2004 debut, Rick Ankiel made the second start of his comeback from elbow surgery. Ankiel's second start for Class A Palm Beach was every bit as successful as his first, and it lasted a little longer. The left-hander pitched three innings, allowing a run on two hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Just as in his last start, Ankiel started a bit slowly, then settled down. A single, a stolen base and another single led to the run, but Ankiel went on to retire eight consecutive batters. He threw 49 pitches, 33 of them for strikes.

Ankiel's next start is yet to be announced, but it could come Thursday for Palm Beach against Daytona.
