I am so fed up with this man...
Dubois: You're pinch-hitting for me?
Baker: Yes, you see you're a right-hander and so is the pitcher. If I send up a left-handed batter, it's called 'playing the percentages.' It's what smart managers do to win ballgames.
Dubois: But I hit nine home runs today.
Baker: You should be very proud of yourself. Sit down.
No spoken words said:At least Isiah Thomas does not run the organization. Do you know what that's like? Not pretty.
Headache in a Suitcase said:i must've missed something... does dusty baker spend his spare time taking a club to mark priror's shoulder? how exactly is he to blame for his injury problems?
Headache in a Suitcase said:the jump was actually only about 40 innings, if you count his minor league starts as well as his major league stats...
6 innings per game compared to 7 innings per game. really not that big of a jump that a 21 year old couldn't handle it...
Headache in a Suitcase said:anyone notice that cubs fans have become much more whiney since the red sox won the world series?
The OOTS said:As a long time Giants fan, I've seen Dusty make very questionable decisions that have cost several games. He's made several blunders in the Playoffs as manager of the Giants, as well as the World Series. Some could blame the Playoff collapse of the Cubs in 03 on Dusty.
He is also notorious for blowing out his arms. Rob Nen never recovered from being over-worked in the 02 postseason.
BTW, what has La Russa ever done for the Cards?? He's overrated too.Dusty could have gotten to the WS last year with that lineup.

Got Philk? said:But Hawkins is NOT supposed to be the closer. Even Baker has said this. The Cubs haven't had a good closer in a long time. Hawkins came to the Cubs to try and close, but quickly became the set up man. And he was brilliant. He is one of the best 8th inning guys in the league.
Got Philk? said:What do you think about Wood becoming a closer? I mean, he certainly has shown he can't hold up as a consistant starter.
Got Philk? said:P.S. Just look at the Cubbies their last two games vs. the Brew Crew. Last night they WALKED in the winning run and tonight...Hawkins strikes again.

um he has the most wins of any cardinal manager, by the end of the year he will be 3rd on the all time wins list for any manager, he's won manager of the year a few times, he has taken the cardinals to the playoffs 4 out of the past 5 years, winning the national league title last year, and with a good shot to do it again this year
not too shabby id say
Headache in a Suitcase said:terry francona made many blunders last year... joe torre has made TONS of blunders over the years... grady little, also has made his share of blunders, as has dusty baker...
The OOTS said:Sure, all manages make blunders. But, Dusty has a knack for making them at THE most critical times. But, in Dusty's defense, he does get the most out of his teams.
