Not sure if any of you have heard, but apparently, Steve Carell hasn't been reporting for work, in support of the writers since their strike began. Earlier today, the show made the decision to shut down production entirely. Here are some snippets and links from various sources:

Quote:
"Additionally, I've been told that Steve Carell informed NBC he is unable to report to work because he is suffering from "enlarged balls." Not just enlarged, I'd say, but brass ones. The source on this one adds, "We wish him a happy, slow recovery." "

Quote:
"It became official today.
"After a 7am call time with a 9am crew call, after standing around for 7 hours at our location waiting for the studio to make a decision once it was realized that Steve Carell would, once again, not be crossing the picket line of the Writer's Guild picketers, our producer called the entire crew into the set of Michael's condo and announced that The Office is officially shutting down."

You can keep up with the Office-related strike news here:

Kudos to Steve.

Yeah, the whole thing is really a shame, and if it really lasts a while, a lot of shows will have effects.

If it gets done quickly, I'm thinking this shouldn't trip up The Office much, if at all.

Yeah, I read somewhere recently that Daniels said they've got enough shows in the can to last a while, but that for every month the strike lasts, it will likely chop three episodes off the season.

That said, as much as it could potentially suck, I'm fully in support of the writers. Anyone with a functioning brain can see that they're getting royally screwed, and need to be compensated fairly.

ETA - Greg Daniels and several of the writers/cast members on the picket line - hilarious! I love these people.

Was last night's episode the last first run, thanks to the strike? Or are there a few more already wrapped up?

I think there are two more, at least one.

I had heard that NBC might air the BBC Office in its place during the strike. As awesome as that sounds, I hope they're shown in their full 28-29 min forms / "SUPERSIZED!!!" and not trimmed down for a 30 min block.

I'm still buying the complete BBC series soon.

I read somewhere today that next week's episode is the last first run episode due to the strike.

That would be cool if they run the BBC version, but I don't think there's any way they'll be shown uncut. Boo.

From what I know, next week's is the last one. They had an episode written by the guy from the Simpsons, but it wasn't finished before the strike, and thus the last new one is next week.

They're both excellent but in different ways. Some of the 1st season US episodes were almost word-for-word from the BBC one though (notably the Pilot); but after the first episode of Season 2, the US Version became its own thing.
