Personally, I think the show loses steam when it doesn't know when to focus on Jim/Pam or Michael. There are some episodes where one element is almost a caricature while the other gets the most attention.

That's what might've rubbed me the wrong way this time, hopefully tomorrow will improve upon that.

I think the episode took two big events (Jim/Pam, Michael/Jan) and tried to show the characters progression without actually going into what has gone on. They seem to be saving Michael/Jan for later episodes, and I think they just flat out fucked up the Jim/Pam aspect of it.

I know Michael/Jan will be a big part in the last hour-long episode "Money," which also has Jim and Pam going to Schrute Farm.

If Michael isn't working, then the show doesn't work. Say what you want about Jim and Pam, they're great, but it's all about him. It's that simple, no decent Michael, no show.

Exactly my feelings.

My issue with Fun Run was that Michael seemed to have legitimately changed due to his relationship, and all they gave about it was the introduction, which was interrupted by, well, Michael hitting Meredith with his car on company property. With company property.

"Money" better be a good explanation.

The second episode seems to be the Ryan episode, as they surprisingly showed him infrequently in the first one.

I think the 2nd and 3rd are Ryan-centered episodes. They're all about him bringing Dunder Mifflin to the Internet Age and renaming the website Dunder Mifflin Infinity.

The Michael/Ryan dynamic will be excellent though. That's probably my favorite Michael quirk, his mancrush on Ryan.

Wasn't there one cold open where Michael just stared out of his office at Ryan?

Yes, maybe the best cold open of Season 2.

It's from The Carpet, btw:

They are very good with the cold opens in general, it only took them a few episodes of using it to realize the potential.

The tape recorder thing from Back from Vacation was hysterical as well.

I AM NOW CHOPPING OFF PHYLLIS' HEAD WITH A CHAINSAW!

Ring-ing-ing-ing-ing...

I loved the football one from Dwight's Speech, too, with Dwight tackling Ryan, stiff-arming Creed, and plowing over Stanley.

HEISMAN!

Dwight's Speech is one of my favorite episodes ever.

I convinced my AP World teacher to show it to the class before we talked about dictators during WWII.

Totally worth it.

Blood alone moves the wheels of history!

On an unrelated note, how is your school Christmas play script going?

It's coming along pretty well, I'm about halfway through the 2nd draft. None of my sponsors have told me whether or not it's going to be done though, so that has me a little worried.

I set a date for myself to finish it all by the 20th; would you like me to send it to you then?

Sounds good. Keep writing, if they're smart they'll pick it up.

That would be great. I think I gave you my e-mail before but just in case: forthewin827 @ yahoo.com

I was more relieved than overjoyed at the Jim/Pam reveal. I would have been overjoyed if they had gotten together at the beginning of Season 3, but they just dragged out the angsty love triangle crap too long. I hate it when shows do that. It makes me get annoyed with the characters.

I can't believe Dwight killed Angela's cat! Maybe I'm an oversensitive cat lover, but it seemed a bit much, even for The Office. On the plus side, Angela is becoming one of my favorite characters on the show. The actress who plays her is amazing and doesn't get enough credit IMHO.
