The American one is far more sitcom-y. I think David Brent was a far more believable character than Michael. David was a complete idiot, Michael is more of a character. I think Dwight is funny, but way too over the top (the "Future Dwight" intro is one of my favorite moments of any show ever). The BBC version was never really about David, it was always a love story about Tim and Dawn. David was the boss, and maybe the main character, but he was never the central focus. The American one is more focused on Michael Scott than anything else. The Jim/Pam story, though right upfront, is not the center of the show, at least not now. And the last ten minutes of the BBC version is perfection. :cute:

I also love Dwight's Mussolini inspired speech. That was brilliant. I like Jim's goofs on the NBC version, they alone are a reason to watch. I just hope that the show doesn't crumble under it's success, which I think is bound to happen to a show of this type.

Yeah, that's true about the US version being more sitcom-y, but that's why it has succeeded in the US - the writers were able to Americanize the idea and make it accessable and different to viewers in the US.

If it were the same thing, then why not buy the DVDs of the UK series.

That's why the 6 episode first season is close to unwatchable, except for The Alliance and Diversity Day, in my opinion.

Ok, I think we're all going to collectively orgasm - next week SNL has as its host Rainn Wilson with musical guest, Arcade Fire.

I blew my load 10 minutes ago about that one.

Question, can I bring my terrarium?

I really loved the last episode - mostly for the bat. Slapstick Office comedy is solid gold, baby, solid gold!

Rashida Jones will be on David Letterman this Thursday, 2/22.

Did you know she's the daughter of Quincy Jones & Peggy Lipton (remember Mod Squad the TV show anyone?)

She looks just like her mother, only brunette

I knew that! There's a nice little article with a great picture of her in last week's Entertainment Weekly.

J.J. Abrams ep tonight :hyper:

I heard the last 5 minutes of this episode is going to be killer too.

Then the show will be on hiatus for a bit, airing Branch Closing, The Merger, and THE CONVICT

I personally have gotten three people on to this show so far. You know, of the few people I know who don't already watch it. I surround myself with people who usually know where it's at.

Prison Mike! :hyper:

Thanks, April. Tanks.

Yeah I'm pumped for a good Earl/Office/Mavs TV night tonight.

Also, my replacement Dwight bobblehead came in the mail two days ago. He is now presiding over my computer.

I held an Office marathon at my house last weekend consisting of:

Business School, Dwight's Speech, Drug Testing, and Casino Night

and maybe 5-6 people are hooked now.

My friends and I have been pounding our fists on our desks at school like Dwight.

tonight's episode was decent. Not the best, but ok.

I love Dwight inspecting the house. "let's start with the banisters."

Decent? I thought tonight's was one of the best of the third season.

I lost it when Dwight popped up in the back seat at the end.

Jim Halpert is dead was the best part. I thought Dwight was a little too over the top this week. Not one of my favorites this season, but the plot moved forward. I guess that was expected and necessary after a couple weeks of great slapstick.

"Do you watch Battlestar Galactica?"
"No"
"Then you are an idiot"

That, Creed's fake ID thing and Dwight in the rocking chair absolutely killed me tonight.

Pam finally grew a backbone :applaud:
Yes, finally!! I don't want to Pam to become a bitch on wheels, but she seriously needs to stand up for herself more often. I guess Oscar and Gil's comments at the art show really made her take a hard, critical look at herself.

Of course, Creed provides the under-aged with fake IDs.

Dwight was both creepy and funny.

And under all that ice is a hot little Vixen. Jan trying to get it on with Michael in the CFO's bathroom. And on a shallow note, I loved Jan's dress and her hairstyle.

Does Toby also like Pam? I missed like one or two episodes so the whole thing of him winning the duck for her was kind of a surprise to me.

Yeah, I've seen pretty much all the episodes up to this point so that was a bit of a surprise to me, as well.

I really felt for him when she said it was cute he won the duck for hs daughter. Poor Toby. :slant:

Dwight was over the top, but the rocking chair thing is hilarious. "Good, you're awake."

And goodness, I certainly don't like Roy anymore. Hello, violent man! :yikes:
