I have to respectfully disagree on a few points:
Ohio has been hit very hard by the Recession so I understand your fears. I only hope that it gets better. Nationwide the unemployment rate is at 5.4% which is better than it was in 1996 during Clinton's reelection.
Personal Freedoms: The Patriot Act was overwhelmingly passed by the both parties. After the fact, it has been used as a political football. I have to admit that I haven't read it, but from my understanding, most of the provisions allow the government to treat terrorist cells in the same way that they have treated the Mafia. I need to read this legislation so I understand it better, but from what I've heard, this isn't as expansive as people have said.
Foreign relations is a legitimate concern, I don't think we can afford to leave it poisonous, hopefully some olive branches will be distributed. We'll see.
I don't know why you are terrified about Africa. Bono admitted that Clinton talked about it, but delivered nothing. Bush has already committed 15 billion in Aid. It may not be enough, but it is something and a lot more than the previous 8 years produced. I believe that Bono is doing God's work and has given him special favor to do it, and Bono's humility in going to the Republicans and Evangelicals is what will produce fruit. Once you win the hearts and minds of these two groups, you have begun to win the war.
On a personal note, my stomach has been in knots all morning, seeing how upset you all are.
I know we won't always agree on some of this, but we aren't here because we all believe the same things, we're united by our love for U2.
