This has been an issue for me as well; the new "glitzy" smilies are what cause it. SkeeK and them told me to hit the "stop" button on my browser, but when I am on AOL, that button is not always live/hittable.
hey it worked. can't you just use explorer or netscape outside of aol running? i know i could way back when with aol canada(what an oxymoron!) 'cause i hated all the aol 'content'.
it looks as though my dog will be ok after all. yay!
