Yeah it looks seriously stupid, if that's what they think teens are into i.e. girls falling off beds and friends laughing, torturing males by listening to nsync, throwing punches in the air and friends laughing, magically dancing and singing on stages with gfs...then I'm in no way a teen.

I just don't get why studios (who are obviously very in touch with the Public as it were) seem to think that movies with vapid Pop Stars will be box office gold.
Even the ugly guy from NSYNC failed to capture viewers, so did Mariah, and Snoop Dogg on all his celluloid efforts. *sigh*
Someone needs to tell studio heads that that WE DON'T GIVE A SHIT about movies starring Pop Stars in roles where they become singers and ultimately sign that Makeup sponsorship but yet still retain their downhome values and continue to "keep it real" and remember where they came from.

Any popstars that attempt to sell themselves in the movie industry are obviously boxed out of their minds and somehow they always fail "keepin it real, fresh, clean" or whatever the new lingo is. I really don't think Britney will be any different.

Oh jeez.. I saw that movie on Tuesday (rented it to laugh at Mariah). Talk about not only the worst script I've ever seen in a movie, but also an incredibly stupid plot! They fastforward months in 2 minutes and don't hardly even make any distinctions to show they moved ahead in time, and make it totally confusing and unfollowable. And the best part was, they do weird little things and then they don't EVER explain them such as..
- Where on earth did the "I'm going to have a blob of silver paint on my body" thing come from?!
- How did she find her mother at the end of the movie?
Eesh. Bad movie. Zero stars.

Here I come in defense of Britney. I think some of her songs are amusing,however I do not think she is all that talented when it comes to singing at all (although it may just be the songs they make her sing). You know how her voice is all weird? Anyway I am by no means one of her followers (I'm just about 21 fyi) however I must admit that I actually want to see that movie. And by seeing her on SNL I also must admit that I don't think is she that bad of an actress. Poor Briteny....everyone's against her

Poor Britney nothing. She can't sing, she can't write a song to save her life, and she certainly can't act. All she's selling is her body. In essence, she's a prostitute. I can't stand her or what she represents and I'll be very happy when her movie flops, her albums end up in bargain bins, and she shows up as a footnote on VH-1 "where are they now?"

Prostitute = someone who sells their body. Please explain to me how this is NOT what she's doing? She sure as hell isn't famous because of her amazing voice, outstanding song-writing abilities, or innate talent. She's making money off the sale of her body...her image...her sexuality. If I sound disgusted with Ms. Spears, it may be because I am sick to death of the pack of lies that are sold every day to girls and women in this country. That the self-esteem of most women hinges on how "perfect" their body is and how "sexy" they are. What a load of bullshit. It's horrifying, it's degrading, and it's wrong. And the saddest part about a public figure like Britney is that her music has been marketed at young girls...the most vulnerable and impressionable victims of crass marketing. That's right girls, you need to have THIS body and wear clothes that show it off if you are to be valued.
So Britney makes a lot of money. Ahh yes, money. Well I guess I had forgotten that if it sells, it MUST be good.

I agree with sula on this one, selling one's body is a euphemised way to say fucking for money, but if taken literally, selling one's body fits Brittney Spears exactly. Flaunting her sexuality, using her looks to sell albums, and otherwise I wont get into it cuz I really dont care...
All I can say is when the trailer for that came on tv the other day, I made several disgusted/offended noises and left the room. I hope the movie does horribly. It wouldn't be so bad if she would just back off. Everywhere you look, it's Britney, Britney, Britney. Same thing with Nsync. I think all of their songs sound alike. And I'm really getting annoyed by all of these pop stars getting into acting. Why can't they just stay with what they're good at and leave the acting to the REAL actors? And IMO I think Britney is skanky; so is her boyfriend. I really want them to go away for awhile and let some real music get some publicity for once.

I don't think anyone is angry in the manner of true fury for Britney. I personally think its just disagreement with the way she makes herself seem to the public. Sorta like lil kim, alot of people disagree with the way she presents herself but its disagreement, that's all. And then again lil kim isn't all over the place for people to have time to dislike her. And Britney's no stranger to this manger.
But I'm curious as to who could be worse than Britney at this point in musical history.

Okay - criticism does not equal jealousy. I am very secure with myself. If you want to see criticism of the worthlessness of her movie as jealousy - then fine, see criticism of clueless studio heads as jealousy, too.
Also, just because you like Britney and might not think she's a prostitute in the most common use of the word - remember that you do not know her and certainly can't claim to know what Pop Stars do in order to get their well-manicured feet in the door. I've dealt with quite a few popular musicians, and they were all whores in every sense of the word. Many are so driven to succeed they will do just about anything to get ahead in the business - which is why you hear so many celebs calling her a slut - and believe me, it ain't because of her outfits.
Please don't think that criticism = jealousy. I and other people here are just sick of the Pop machine and all of its puppets, and again, that does not = jealousy.

Ahh c'mon now, not liking a so called star doesn't mean there is something more in the words "I hope her movie fails." I bought Britney's first album and doesn't that tell you something? I like her first album but I stopped liking her personally and her music when she went down the "in your face, every where ya turn" road and I hate "oops I did it again" it sounded like a really dumb song that was beggin for attention.
How you're entertained by Britney baffles me because there are more interesting models that I'd be entertained by than Britney. Britney has no talent. There are people out there who actually have talent and are pretty (fiona apple, sheryl crow, alicia keys, gwen stefani, jewel.)
And as for the department of smarts or just knowledge Britney really makes people that already don't like her have good reason never to like her. Doing a cover of Joan Jett's "I love rock n roll" and then saying she did the cover because she loves Pat Benatar would make any person wanna slap her mama!

I wouldn't say Britney is talentless or a prostitute, but she definitely uses sex to sell...but to who? Guys? I think she's hot but I would never buy one of her records. She can sing OK & she can dance, but can you really listen those tunes without looking at her? She also sends a bit of a mixed message as well. She claims she is a virgin, but almost everytime you see her, she is as close to naked as legally possible. That Slave video is as close to soft core porn as you can get on regular TV. But I have nothing against her. She seems kind of sweet...

And every individual will say she is a damaging role model for young girls. In fact, all the celebrity/supermodel hype is. She has the figure and the looks that sell, for some reason, despite what all the indivuals say, she is a marketable image. Why is that so? Is it because even though we are filled with good intentions about looks not mattering, everyone knows a butt ugly obese-in-anyone's-terms performer will not be as hugely popular with a younger audience? "But she can sing" wont wash if the person is a trog.
All you need these days is one selling point. And imo, rarely is it ability these days. I will get flamed for this perhaps, but Mariah Carey for example is one of the few singers that can actually sing (after all she is classically trained). These days, as long as you have something to offer, you can make it. And it doesn't always have to be talent. Talent either being a good voice, dance ability, songwriting or capacity to play a guitar.
Britney seems to cop the most criticism because of her voice and looks. This criticism isnt directed with such passion at other performers-who may have as little talent as her. Im sure we could run off a whole long list.

You're exactly right - and when she starts singing during her concerts - you let us know. I don't know anyone who wants to be her - she has zero integrity, and you don't need to be deep performers like U2 to earn that.
Sure she's sweet, sure she's pretty - but that's all she has to stand on, and the clock is running out. The public really doesn't want to see her that much anymore - her album isn't really doing well, she never has garnered a positive review, and any publication worth its salt receives a good 100+ letters to the Editor screaming that they don't want to see her and her fake persona. Basically, what people want is reality - and too many of us see through her glittery facade to see very ingenious puppetmasters at work. Believe me, this isn't jealousy, this is annoyance.
I don't care if you like her, or if you buy into her facade. But this is a thread for discussion, and the rest of us were just offering our opinions - we weren't asking you to stop liking or being entertained by her, opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one - and unfortunately, you aren't going to find a very pro-Britney stance here.
If you have taken offense, I apologize, but we can only offer discussion, otherwise there isn't a point to any of this. Also, once you deal with the inner workings of the Entertainment industry, you get a greater grasp on what it takes to get a performer's engine going - and because of that knowledge and experience, you see things, and learn things about all sorts of entertainers that you would have never believed. A good percent of the population hates Pop music (current Billboard charts illustrate this) because we see through the over-produced smoke and mirrors. It's just like seeing a really lame movie with bad acting, bad direction and a bad looped dialogue, yet the film is gorgeous - most wouldn't watch that film again because it's crap and not worth the time - and this is how many feel about the Pop machine and it's imminent breakdown.
