I was wondering which songs you consider beautiful, gentle and bring you to a special place.
Im looking for non U2 songs here.

Cool thread! Beauty is my favourite thing in music. I dunno if all of these are gentle, though. Like The Unforgettable Fire--one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard but it's not gentle to me.

Sting--Children's Crusade, Fragile, Why Should I Cry For You, The Wild Wild Sea, Fields of Gold, Shape of My Heart, I Was Brought to my Senses, A Thousand Years

Police--Invisible Sun, Spirits in the Material World, I Burn For You

Crowded House--Private Universe, Kare Kare, Whispers and Moans, Nails in My Feet, Fingers of Love, Don't Dream It's Over, Weather With You

Neil Finn--Faster than Light, Into the Sunset

Led Zeppelin--That's the Way, All My Love, Thank You, Battle of Evermore, The Rain Song

Robert Plant--Big Log, 29 Palms

Jimmy Page and Robert Plant--Shining in the Light, Heart in your Hand, Blue Train, Yallah, City Don't Cry

Simple Minds--See the Lights, Belfast Child, Mandela Day, Waterfront

Jeff Buckley--Dream Brother, Corpus Christi Carol

Depeche Mode--When the Body Speaks, Freestate

Midnight Oil--Blue Sky Mine, The Dead Heart, Kosciusko, Truganini, My Country

Radiohead--Street Spirit, Bulletproof, High and Dry, Fake Plastic Trees

Smashing Pumpkins--Crestfallen, Once Upon a Time, Annie-Dog

Pink Floyd--Goodbye Blue Sky, Wish You Were Here

Emerson Lake & Palmer--Still You Turn Me On, Jerusalem, From the Beginning

Yes--Roundabout, Shoot High Aim Low

Hmmm, some songs I've put here that I haven't listened to in a million years...I must soon...

I agree. I have a very vivid memory of listening to that song while spending the night at a friend's house in 6th grade. He always listened to the radio as he fell asleep, which was strange to me at the time. It always takes me a while to finally get to sleep, so I was lying awake after he had drifted off and this song came on. I already liked the song a lot, but that was the first time I realized just how beautiful it is.

~ Aphex Twin - goon gumpos, Everyone I've Lived With (3rd song of first disc of "Selected Ambient Works Vol. II"), Moo Kid (9th song on "...I Care Because You Do")
The reason I give the number of each track is because I'm still not clear on his numbering system on these cds. I really should just go and look 'em up on the net.

~ Belly - Sweet Ride

~ Bjork - All is Full of Love (video version)

~ The Cranberries - Twenty One, Disappointment

~ Depeche Mode - A Question of Lust, Waiting for the Night, Higher Love, The Bottom Line, When the Body Speaks

~ Enya - Caribbean Blue

~ P.J. Harvey - Catherine, Electric Light, One Line, Beautiful Feeling

~ Led Zeppelin - Goin To California (I have never heard any of their albums, but I heard this song on the radio several times)

~ Low - Words (if I had to pick the 3 most beautiful songs, this would be one of them), Slide, Shame

~ Mazzy Star - Into Dust

~ NIN - A Warm Place, The Great Below

~ Portishead - Pedestal (the most beautiful thing about this one is her voice)

~ Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees, Bullet Proof, Street Spirit, Airbag, Let down, A Reminder, How To Disappear Completely

~ R.E.M. - So. Central Rain, Find the River

~ Smashing Pumpkins - Obscured, Landslide, Stumbleine, To Sheila, Once Upon a Time

I wanted to list so many more, but I think I narrowed it down quite a bit.

Oh and one last track worth investigating is Jeff Buckley's "I Know We Could Be So Happy, If We Wanted To Be", from the Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk CDs. It's simply divine.

Anggun - almost everything from Snow On The Sahara album

Sarah McLachlan - Full Of Grace
