My mind is fragmented into many a piece.
These are the highlights:

Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)
Radiohead - Let Down
Goldfrapp - Utopia
Jeff Buckley - Lilac Wine
Max Richter - November
Neil Young - Heart of Gold
Pink Floyd - Us And Them
REM - Ebow The Letter
Rothko - Harold Budd
Sigur Rós - Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása

Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah is lovely.

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.

When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

(this is literally the only song, when delivered by the right vocalists, that has ever caused tears to well up in my eyes)

Glosoli, Seaglopur--Sigur Ros
Drowning Man--U2
Something, In My Life, Hey Jude--Beatles
Mother--John Lennon
At My Most Beautiful--REM
Fields of Gold, When We Dance--Sting
How to Disappear Completely--Radiohead
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town--Pearl Jam

There are so many, it is hard to pin down one song or even a handful of songs.

However, given that I have been listening to them alot recently, I would add 'I Could Have Lied' by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The guitar parts on this song are very beautiful and reflect the feeling of the song perfectly.

Massive Attack - Teardrop

I would agree with this and add Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack also.

Blackbird- Beatles
Bad-U2

Great taste, u2valleygirl! For my picks, to the 2 above I'd just add Beatles - In My Life and Jeff Buckley - Grace.

I've Been High- R.E.M.
Beat a Drum- R.E.M.
I'll Take the Rain- R.E.M.

I love Reveal

while Nutshell is indeed a beautiful song, I can think of many more than beat it in the category of "beautiful".

"Wind Beneath My Wings"

It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine, that's your way
You always walked a step behind.

So I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strain
A beautiful face without a name for so long
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I've got it all here in my heart
I want you to know I know the truth,
Of course I know it
I would be nothing without you.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be
I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings.

Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
Cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly away, you let me fly so high
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.

Fly, fly, fly high against the sky
So high I almost touch the sky
Thank you, thank you
Thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings.

"Wind Beneath My Wings "Bette Midler

I think this was meant to be a thread about the AIC song.

Oh well.

My vote goes to 'Layla' by Derek and the Dominos because I've just played it several times in a row.

Personally nothing can really beat the Moonlight Sonata in my eyes...

But other songs worthy of being called Beautiful are:

Fox in the Snow- Belle & Sebastien (hmm maybe pretty is more accurate?)

When the Lights Go Out All Over Europe- The Divine Comedy

She is Suffering- Manic Street Preachers (I guess not conventionally beautiful, but conventional beauty is so boring:wink: )

And just to be the extremely sad geek for a moment...I always thought the piece of music playing in the snowy mountains in Final Fantasy X was quite beautiful:reject:

The first movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. Everyone knows it.

It's so beautiful that it often makes me cry.

Present day music... I'd have to say Radiohead's Exit Music (For a Film).

Tom Waits ~ Downtown Train

I wonder if there is anybody who thinks it is crap:hmm:

Unless of course you count those fake punk kids who would probably say its crap, but in general they aren't allowed opinions:wink:

jeff buckley---- Hallelujah
Radiohead ---gagging order

I also have to add Keane's 'Untitled 1' to that list.

Pink Floyd's 'When the Tigers Broke Free'
and Bruce Springsteen's 'Jungleland'

I don't care for the Moonlight Sonata, but probably only because I've had to play it 6,346 times. But yes, pretty.

My vote for most beautiful song ever? Samuel Barber's "Adagio For Strings." That's the one that makes me cry.

forgot about that one

..what other pink floyd songs would you classsify as" beautiful"?

Marooned
Us and Them
Wish You Were Here
The Great Gig in the Sky
Shine on You Crazy Diamond Parts I-V
and Nobody Home.

Nobody Home is one of my all-time favorites.

I don't see how anyone could think Moonlight Sonata is crap. It's one of those things that even people who hate classical music can love.

I first heard Moonlight Sonata whilst playing Earthworm Jim on Sega many many many moons ago. Ah, memories.

hmm, that's a tough question.

Dark Side of the Moon was the one that solidified my fandom.

But I love The Wall and the movie so much, followed by:
Animals
Wish You Were Here
The Final Cut.

anything is pretty much a tossup after those.

I know you were asking LMP, but I must butt in. Grantchester Meadows. It's a lovely song, written by Waters.

Icy wind of night be gone
This is not your domain
In the sky a bird was heard to cry
Misty morning whisperings
and gentle stirring sounds
Belied a deathly silence
That lay all around

Hear the lark and harken
To the barking of the dog fox
Gone to ground
See the splashing
Of the kingfisher flashing to the water
And a river of green is sliding
Unseen beneath the trees
Laughing as it passes
Through the endless summer
Making for the sea

In the lazy water meadow
I lay me down
All around me golden sunflakes
Settle on the ground
Basking in the sunshine
Of a by-gone afternoon
Bringing sounds of yesterday
Into this city room

Hear the lark and harken
To the barking of the dog fox
Gone to ground
See the splashing
Of the kingfisher flashing to the water
And a river of green is sliding
Unseen beneath the trees
Laughing as it passes
Through the endless summer
Making for the sea
