The Killers 'offended' by Green Day
Brandon Flowers doesn't want to be an 'American Idiot'
Brandon Flowers has criticised Green Day for what he sees as their calculated anti-Americanism.

In particular, Flowers singled out the track 'American Idiot' and the fact they filmed their DVD 'Bullet In A Bible', which features the song, in the UK.

"You have Green Day and 'American Idiot'. Where do they film their DVD? In England," The Killers' frontman told The Word. "A bunch of kids screaming 'I don't want to be an American idiot' I saw it as a very negative thing towards Americans. It really lit a fire in me."

Explaining he was offended by the set-up, Flowers added: "You have the right to say what you want to say and what you want to write about, and I'm sure they meant it in the same way that Bruce Springsteen meant 'Born In The USA' and it was taken wrongly, but I was really offended when I saw them do that."

The singer added he felt the DVD was a bit of a a stunt.

"I just thought it was really cheap," he explained. "To go to a place like England or Germany and sing that song - those kids aren't taking it the same way that he meant it. And he [Billie Joe Armstrong] knew it."

The Killers' frontman said he believed that his band's new album 'Sam's Town' is a much better representation of America.

"People need to see that, really, there are the nicest people in the world here!" he declared. "I don't know if our album makes you realise that. But I hope it's from a more positive place."

and there love for Coldplay...

The Killers have revealed their new album 'Sam's Town' took some inspiration from Coldplay.

Though the Killers have made plenty of headlines for trading barbs with bands over the last year-plus, during our AOL Sessions interview frontman Brandon Flowers and guitarist Dave Keuning had nothing but kind words for some of their peers.

"We all listen to our favorite bands and are inspired on the drive to the studio by whatever's in our car," Keuning said. "We just try and make the best songs possible. I guess maybe we're trying to be just as good as Coldplay. You know, we use them as an influence, too."

I really like Sam's Town but that was a cheap shot at Green Day and a live album that was released almost a year ago

Brandon is a pompous ass IMHO. I find his music derivative in the very worst of ways and frankly think he should try coming up with an idea or two himself before blasting others.

Too f**king right. If The Killers ever came up with an original idea they would frighten themselves.

as much as I like his music he needs to STFU!1

“I love Sam’s Town. I don’t regret saying that,” he says. “I’d put it up against OK Computer. I’d put it up against Achtung Baby. It’s what I’m here for: Thom Yorke’s not gonna make another OK Computer; he’s making a bunch of noise.

he compares their album to Achtung Baby and OKC

Brandon Flowers is and idiot, I hate seeing him n magazine covers (and in magazines in general) cos he's always got that stupid pout going on  .

A bunch of noise??? he is so off the mark here its not even funny.. what a dickhead... still like the music..but not what comes out of his mouth sometimes.. :eyebrow: :|

Brandon isn't too bright is he? I guess we could have just taken a look at his lyrics to figure that out.

Or is he just jealous it wasn't The Killers who U2 called to 'The Saints'...

no way he compared his album to Achtung Baby:eyebrow: they are coming to Mexico in December I'm actually a bit excited but he sure is full of it

Flowers is so pompous... he also said that Springsteen shits on Dylan and Dylan has a crap voice. He mentions in another interview that U2 was great but ATYCLB and HTDAAB are bad in his opinion and that they need to go back to making another POP. I respect Flowers' music but I can't respect the fact that he has an opinion. He needs to go back to England where he belongs if he's going to shit on a legendary band like Green Day.

When your band's drummer looks like Earl from My Name is Earl, you have a problem.

I applaud anyone who can pull off a quasi-futuristic Colonel Sanders. That style shits all over Tom Waits' funeral-pyresque Orville Redenbacher.

The South Will Boogie Again!!!

:lmao:

that's what it is!

Oh dear. Is Brandon one of those lead singers who open their mouth and earn a bad reputation for their band?

well Brandon is a big U2 fan, and i know that a number of people here feel the same way about ATYCLB and HTDAAB, so i don't see what the big deal is.

He is a bad ass drummer! Drummers only wish they could look like Earl. Honestly, that is an awesome look so I see no problems. Long live the porn stache!

Let's not forget Edge's awesome porn stache during Pop!

I agree. I feel pretty much the same way as him on that subject although I hope U2 don't go back to that sound.. just the attitude. But comparing his own band's brand new album to classics like Achtung Baby & OK Computer just comes off as incredibly arrogant!

geez, i wonder what other band i know has a pompous ass for a singer :hmm:

What does he mean he thinks American Idiot may have been misunderstood in the same way Born in the USA was misunderstood? If anything, people misunderstood Born in the USA in the sense they thought it was about how great America was when it was really about how America crapped all over Vietnam veterans when they came home. Does this dofus really think Springsteen meant to write a pro-American song and people misunderstood it as anti-American?

American Idiot? Sounds like a good description of Brandon Flowers.

I understood it as Green Day meant it to be critical of the USA but not anti-American persay....like Born in the USA was.
