So, I've been playing for about a year and I absolutely love this game. It measures character, courage and all around intelligence. Poker is great!

So, what chips do you guys use? Who's your favorite player? Mine is Negreanu because of his amazing ability to read other players.

I think it is a lot more than gambling though. It does require skill. Why do you think it's pretty much the same guys who win all those tournaments?

fair enough... but even espn themselves do not consider it to be a sport, it is a skilled game of leisure... they show it because it gets ratings. and i do believe the thread would get more hits if it were in the regular lemonade stand as opposed to the sports forum. but, alas, i'm done.

I remember that time in the WSOP where this guy was calling his friends because he was glad he had Daniel Negreanu right next to him. A couple of hands later the guy is all frustrated because he's losing all his hands against Daniel.

Last night I learned a valuable lesson that even though I'd heard it before it hadn't really sunken in.

"Never bluff an idiot."



I bluffed an idiot with my all-in and we were heads up. He had me covered by a little bit. I knew he had nothing or bottom pair which on the flop this time was a 2. He kept raising on other hands with nothing. And this time I had nothing. He called without seeing the turn or river and won with a pair of two's while my A-K caught nothing.

I know I played this hand very poorly if not embarrassingly bad but it still hurts to lose in the final heads up to a pair of twos.

(I know most of you don't care but I just had to share this with SOMEONE.)

How big were the blinds and stacks at the time? What was the preflop action?

Stacks were a little over 200 chips, he had me covered by about 40 - 60 chips though, (worth $1) and the blinds were 15/30. He raised pre-flop with what I later learned was a rag and a deuce. I raised with my A-K. Flop hit, and he raised 30 just as he´d done on other hands without holding anything and I went all in (in a previous hand I had made him fold with a hefty bet that I, at the time, expected him to call and but I was holding a set of jacks so I expected to win anyway, he folded and surprised me with the fold and I kind of thought the guy could later be scared off of calling a hefty bet). The guy called. And won with a pair of twos.

It was 4am already and the guy a complete rookie so maybe he was tired and couldn´t have cared less and called. I still think I missplayed the hand and could´ve just folded after he bet the flop and then hoped for better cards on the next hand. But man, it still sucks. Mostly for pride.

He was such a rookie that when I dealt the flop I could see him not move when a card that didn´t hit him was dealt and see him nod after he caught something. This time I saw him nod when the deuce was dealt and I genuinely thought he would fold, I mean it´s heads up and all you´re holding is a pair of deuces with two overcards.

hehe, huge rant, I know, but it really sucks.

Only 200 chips with 15/30 blinds? Going all-in preflop is probably the best move.

I played a few weeks ago, and we had some newbies in the group. My hands sucked that day, and they just kept betting and betting. Before long my chips had dwindled to almost nothing. So it was a combination of not getting anything good and the new guys not knowing what they were doing and getting lucky. Hell, one got a flush and didn't even realize it...

Anyway, I LOVE hold em poker. I was playing pretty regularly for a while. Cash games (3-6) at the casinos as well as some home tournaments. I got bold and played 6-12 once at the local casino and ended up making $400 in about 20 minutes. I decided to be smart and leave the table and go back to relax on 3-6 for a bit before leaving lol.

At the home tourneys I always seem to be the only girl though

Mike Madison is always fun to watch as well as Phil Helmuth.
Especially if they're at the same table.

I think that was a good move to go back to the 3-6 if you didn´t feel secure enough to make in the higher one. Feel completely comfortable at that table and then move on up.


But going back to my recent tourny loss, I´ve realized that against borderline maniacal aggresive players like the one I was playing there´s really not much you can do besides wait for a good hand and nail them there. Fold your hand as soon as you realize it´s no good.
