the last question was "upon returning from south america, after being elected president, he admitted that he was surpised that the continent was made up of multiple countries"...the only answer left was regean. someone in my group asked the teacher if that was possible, after we handed in the test, and she (the teacher) goes "scary, isn't it?"

As much as I hate to defend him, that's a really horrible misinterpretation a quote. When someone asked what he'd learned from his trip through South and Central America, he said, "You'd be surprised. They're all individual countries." While it was a very poor choice of wording, I think he was referring to the difference between the countries, culturally and politically.
