OK - Maybe it's a little late, but here's my list of the top twenty albums of 2001. The only obvious choice was #1, and really the top five were pretty easy, they're just the cds I listened to the most. I did my best with the rest of the list but I'm sure a week from now they could be totally different. I was gonna write a short review of each one but I couldn't think of anything clever to say. Well - here it is:

1. Daft Punk DISCOVERY
2. Bj?rk VESPERTINE
3. Pulp WE LOVE LIFE
4. The Strokes IS THIS IT?
5. Lucinda Williams ESSENCE
6. Mercury Rev ALL IS DREAM/
Sparklehorse IT'S A WONDERFULL LIFE
7. Radiohead AMNESIAC
8. Jay-Z THE BLUEPRINT
9. Alejandro Escovedo A MAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE
10. Shaver THE EARTH ROLLS ON
11. Basement Jaxx ROOTY
12. Beulah THE COAST IS NEVER CLEAR
13. Avalanches SINCE I LEFT YOU
14. Clem Snide THE GHOST OF FASHION
15. Sigur Ros ?GAETIS BYRJUN
16. Bob Dylan LOVE AND THFT
17. Stephen Malkmus STEPHEN MALKMUS
18. Built to Spill ANCIENT MELODIES OF THE FUTURE
19. Ivy LONG DISTANCE/
Paco PACO EP
20. Spiritualized LET IT COME DOWN

Here are the best singles of the year too:

1. Mary J. Blige 'Family Affair'
2. Daft Punk 'One More Time'/'Digital Love'
3. U2 'Walk On'
4. Gorillaz '19-2000'
5. Destiny's Child 'Bootylicious'

Tell me what you think.

I'm not familiar with most of the stuff on your list. However, I do agree with Bjork's Vespertine being one of the best and Radiohead's Amnesaic along with Bob Dylan's Love and Theft being in the Top 20 of last year. Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Ros is another fine choice but I consider it a 2000 release. Tool's Lateralus has to be a Top 5 album from last year. If you haven't heard it, listen to The Grudge, Parabola, or Reflection.

Nice list, candyfloss...i'd move up beulah and dylan, and move down bjork and daft punk, but otherwise looks good...

By the way, have you heard The Notwist's "Neon Golden"? It's taken me forever to find it, but it was worth it...fantastic. So far it and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot are my only certain 2002 top 10 albums.

2. Aphex Twin - Drukqs
3. R.E.M. - Reveal
4. Mariza - Fado em mim
5. Tindersticks - Can our Love ...
(6. Tortoise - Standards)

I just found a copy of a promotional e.p. that the Notwist released in '97 for 3 bucks. How'd you hear about these guys? I'll have to track down a copy of Neon Golden 'cause I like what I've heard.

Yeah, definitely pick it up if you can. They've come far since Shrink (their last lp in '98 or '97) I'm liking it more and more every listen...

A friend of mine is into (what else) german post-rock...he discovered these guys a few years ago. they've had a pretty remarkable evolution from a hard punk band to a more atmospheric (but still very melodic) band.

I had a bit of trouble finding this one, but i finally found it on www.othermusic.com, though import costs are expensive. if you wanna test a few songs from audiogalaxy or something try Pilot and Off The Rails

I like Mogwai (especially Dial: Revenge--Gruff Rhys has such a distinctive voice, and that song is gorgeous), but I hate their attitudes.

Glad to see someone else knows Ours!
