Check out arcadefire.net for the latest band updates.

Boy, I can't wait for the next album. Funeral was by far my favorite album of 2004, and it still astounds me that it was only a Debut. That Arcade Fire is the most promicing new band I've heard in years, and I'm almost as excited about their next album as I am about the next U2 album...almost.

But anyway, the album seems to be coming along nicely, and the band is very excited about trying new instruments and attaining a "classic" sound. In one update they talk about figuring out how to make the drums sound like the drums in Come Together. The most exciting thing in the updates is the enthusiasm over a massive cathedral-sized organ the band has been recording.

Damn, this thing's going to be epic. I'm shaking with joy. Who's with me!?

I'm definitely looking forward to this one. Hope it's not a sophomore slump, but I don't think it will be. Cathedral-sized organs?! Count me in! Is there a release date set? It's got to be sometime soon at any rate...

So am I! I'm always afraid of the albums that follow a classic one but from what they are saying it should be good. It's amazing to see a band making such epic music and still be sort of under the radar. I agree one of the more promising groups of last decade.

I've been keeping up with this one for some time now. I can't imagine how it could be anything less than great. Supposedly the organ made Win cry.

I really hope "Intervention" is on the album. The radio session version of that song is nothing short of magnificent.

Oh my, Intervention is wonderful. I just listened to that song again on my drive home from work tonight.

I read about this some days ago, according with what I read the string section is done because Owen Pallet is on his European tour really soon with Final Fantasy

I can't wait for this, every time I listen to Funeral amazes me more and more

I haven't heard "Intervetion" :(

I'm looking forward to it. It's also a self-produced album, so it'll be interesting to see how that turns out :hmm:. But I'm sure they'll come up with some really unique material as usual.

Did someone say Intervention?

:shh:

I was not too impressed with their contribution to the Six Feet Under soundtrack (Cold Wind), but if their new material will be on par with Intervention... it should be pretty good.

Okay, so that has never happened before. YSI, please don't turn into ! Tried a few times but it wouldn't let me download. I'll try again later. Thanks for the link, though, I'm really looking forward to this!

I thought Cold Wind was quite nice, just lacking a little oomph.

EDIT: haha, it took the name out. Good ol' Interference word filters.

hmm... I tried the ysi link with the words and spacing corrected. It seemed to work for me. If the problem persists, let me know, and I will post Intervention again or send it by email to whoever wants it.

Agreed about Cold Wind. I enjoyed the refrain, but the rest of the song was too much of a listless foil (for this guy).

Strange, I'm still getting the error message. I tried clearing the cache and a few other things in case the problem was on my end, but no results. Looks like YSI is clogged! But thanks for the email offer, I'm promenade[at]flickerandfade.org. Really interested in hearing this.

Am I the only one who hears a lot of "New Slang" in Intervention?

I quite liked Cold Wind to be perfectly honest. It's not a huge song, but it wasn't meant to be either. Sounds like a refined version of something they might have written for their EP.

Oh well, I just listened to Funeral again. that album really takes you on a journey. I must say too, the last three songs on that album are fricken unstoppable.

Haiti is simply gorgeous. Regine's voice is haunting as usual, but it's not morose. Love it.

Then Rebellion kicks in thunderously, with what turned into my favorite song of 2004. the lyrics are bizarre yet familiar. The track never stops, a true anthem if I've ever heard one.

Sleeping is giving in, no matter what the time is.
Sleeping is giving in, so lift those heavy eyelids.
People say that you'll die, faster than without water.
But we know it's just a lie. Scare your son, scare your daughter.
People say that your dreams are the only things that save you.
Come on baby in our dreams, we can live our misbehavior.

Then we have In the Backseat. This song sounds like it's been around for hundreds of years. It's a romantic piece of art. Her voice here is extremely fragile, yet when the song hits it's climax, her voice is a solid as stone. Also the most forboding song on the album, it closes an album that could have been a photo album of their lives.

My family tree's
losing all its leaves,
crashing towards the driver's seat,
the lightning bolt made enough heat
to melt the street beneath your feet.

Alice died
in the night,
I've been learning to drive.
My whole life,
I've been learning.

came across this tonite:

Pick of the Day: Arcade Fire ” Age of Consent”

Is there anything this band can’t do well? It seems likely the Arcade Fire’s cover of New Order’s classic “Age of Consent” came from the band’s set at last year’s Vegoose festival. Wherever it originated, we bless the kind soul who decided to post it cuz now we have our delightful Monday, “play it till your coworkers threaten to behead you” song, which is so very important you see. Yay and stuff!

don't think this was posted before (if so, forgive me).

Enjoy!

A couple of others I'm all over...No Cars Go, which could very well be the best Arcade Fire song that you've never heard. It's from their debut EP.

"...between the click of the light and the start of a dream."

...And, a cover of Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Maps. (Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a rock band from New York City.) Yeah!

Well, in related news, word is that they've actually rerecorded No Cars Go in the current recording session. They've also rerecorded the demo Surf City Eastern Block, and have definitely recorded Intervention. It's not clear whether all of these will be on the album (I for one don't see how they could improve on the EP version of No Cars Go), but it seems that they've all been at the very least recorded.

Cantwaitcantwaitcantwait. :combust:

:combust:

The greatest indie-but-not-really-since-they're-wellknown-but-not-that-much band everrrr.

I can't wait until their new album, and for the record, No Cars Go = 678 shades of amazing.

Thanks a lot for that, but would it be possible for someone to post a new link for Intervention? The first one has expired.
