If the Los Angeles Angels of Northern Antarctica can manage to keep you on the DL, they might have a shot at competing at Fenway...if you take the mound withyour gas can in hand...balls will be flying out of the park in the bottom of the first and second, things will settle down after that while you shower but the damage will be done.

Their starting pitching, at least, is better than the Red Sox, the Yankees, or the Mets thusfar. Don't know how that's not considered good, though. The bullpen's a little shakey, but, currently 3 of our relievers have ERA's in the 1's. Don't know how that's not good.

So you're partially right. Seattle isn't good (when it comes to hitting, thusfar). Seattle, however, is good when it comes to pitching in the first 7 innings of a game. And Seattle is decent when it comes to the last two.

And I know this. And I've said this. And this is why I've said what they need to do.

They need to acquire one more power-bat. They need to do what the Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets do and open up some unlimited piggy-banks for one more power-bat. In fact, I take back what I said the other day about them needing two power guys, because Sexson's on pace for 40 homeruns at the moment, and Balentien's promising with his homerun power (6 in the minors, 2 in the 6 games in the majors). They need to get themselves a Griffey or a Bonds--some lefty threat of power, seeing as Safeco was built with Griffey in mind (short fence in right).

I'll give you the NY teams without even looking up their stats, but I'll contest the Red Sox...

The Sox starting 5 is 14-7, The M's is 11-11
Now I know you'll say thats the bullpen's fault in Sea-Town (disregarding the Sox have Mike Timlin and Manny Delcarmen with their respective 12.79 and 7.30 ERA's), or the lineup difference, so lets dig deeper...

ERA: Sox 5 are: 2.43, 3.71, 3.94, 4.03 and 4.19
Seattle's 5 are: 1.82, 3.04, 4.20, 4.41 and 4.81
So advantage Seattle in 2 slots, Boston in 3.

Strikeouts..Sox 145, M's 132

I wouldn't exactly proclaim Seattle's staff better tha Boston's at this point.

Maybe A-rod really does drink wine coolers:

NEW YORK (AP) -Alex Rodriguez passed out during the birth of his first daughter. "The one nurse had a cold cloth on his head. The other nurse had the blood pressure on his arm. And my mother was like rubbing his back. And he is passed out on a couch. And I am there, in the middle of labor," Cynthia Rodriguez, wife of the New York Yankees star, said on an episode of the YES Network's "YESterdays" that is scheduled to be broadcast Wednesday night. "And really, I am not being paid much attention to besides the doctor and a couple of nurses," she said. "And he is there moaning. In between pushing, I am going, `Honey, are you OK?' and `Are you breathing? Are you OK?' " Natasha Alexander Rodriguez was born on Nov. 18, 2004. "As tough and big as he seems, he is real wimpy around doctors or any type of medical situation," Cynthia Rodriguez said, according to excerpts released Tuesday by YES. "I don't know why I thought the birth of our child would be different. In the middle of the night, I realized that I needed to go to the hospital. I wake him up. The first thing that comes out of his mouth, `Can we call your mother?' ... A few hours later, I said, `I think you can call my mom now.' Uh, and the color came back to his face when I told him he could call my mom."

Actually, good point. I was more matching up Beckett and DiceK with Felix and Bedard. The rest was all high 3's and mid 4's. They're very even at this point. Boston's bullpen is better, though, at this point.

The back end of Boston's bullpen is better...the middle relief (which luckily hasn't been required lately) for the Red Sox has been horrendous.

i'll take my chances with beckett or santana before i even look at anyone on the mariners. and in a short series, one ace can be markedly more important than your 4 and 5's. i like bedard a lot, but he has to prove he can pitch for a good team. felix obviously has a ton of talent, but he's never really put it together for a full season and had that "wow" year. they're still unproven, despite having the obvious talent.

but seattle has good pitching, yes. their hitting is no good, imo. san diego has good pitching. people think san diego is good, i think they suck. why? their hitting is awful. having one thing good does not a good team make.

arizona was in that "good pitch, no hit" department, but their young kids are starting to hit, which makes them a legit contender, where in the past they never really were because, low and behold, they couldn't hit.

not only that but IMO San Diego's supposed good pitching (outside of Peavy who is a bad-ass) is a product of that cavernous ballpark they play in.

He has 39 Ks and 2 BBs over 44.2 innings right now, which is absolutely insane.

More importantly, he made me a nice sum of money tonight...

...which Julio Lugo promptly took away.

Yeah, I bet the Indians are happy they didn't pull the trigger on the Cliff Lee-Jason Bay trade that was being discussed in the off season.
