Listen carefully tomorrow morning for the sound of baseballs denting the green monster as I will be partaking in BP at the old Fens.

(OK listen for the sound of dribblers up the 3rd base line)

That's hot. If I managed to hit one over (or even hit) the Monster I'd need a change of drawers :) Good luck.

Cliff Floyd... the Robert Horry of major leage baseball

Florida Marlins
In 1996, the team was 80-82, finishing 3rd in the NL East. Floyd joins the team in 1997. They go 92-70 and win the World Series.

New York Mets
In 2001, the team was 75-86, finishing 5th in the NL East. Floyd joins the club in 2003. Three seasons later the Mets are one strike away from going to the World Series.

Chicago Cubs
In 2006, the team was 66-96, finishing last in the NL Central. Floyd joins the team in 2007 and they go 85-77, winning the NL Central.

Tampa Bay Rays
Since their inception in 1998, this franchise has only finished above last place in their division once. They have never won more than 70 games in a season, and reached that meager total but once. Floyd joins the team this season and they are leading AL East through the first third of the season. Their record has been at times the best in baseball.

He told little white lies ... and he took little blue pills.

Roger Clemens, whose claims he never took steroids are under federal investigation, has apparently discovered the benefits of another performance-enhancing drug sweeping the sports world - Viagra.

Clemens stashed the clearly marked, diamond-shaped pills in a GNC vitamin bottle in his locker at Yankee Stadium, according to a source familiar with the clubhouse, perhaps keeping the drug undercover to avoid the inevitable wisecracks about all the girlfriends he needed to please.

Clemens wasn't alone. The pitcher, who is believed to have scored the drug from a teammate, joined the burgeoning number of athletes who have turned Vitamin V and its over-the-counter substitutes into one of the hottest drugs in locker rooms.

The drug is so widely used for off-label purposes that it has drawn the attention of anti-doping officials and law-enforcement agencies in the United States and beyond.

"All my athletes took it," BALCO founder Victor Conte, whose acolytes included Jason Giambi, Barry Bonds and Marion Jones, said of an over-the-counter supplement he claimed mimicked the effects of Viagra.

"It's bigger than creatine. It's the biggest product in nutritional supplements."

Among the off-label uses for Viagra, which first went on the market in 1998, it:

Helps build endurance, especially for athletes who compete at high altitudes
Delivers oxygen, nutrients and performance-enhancing drugs to muscles more efficiently
Counteracts the impotence that can be a side-effect of testosterone injections
Many jocks even use Viagra for its intended use - as an erectile dysfunction drug, particularly as a remedy for too much partying.

The wildly popular lifestyle drug is legal and not banned by Major League Baseball or other leagues. Clemens violated no drug-testing rules by using the drug.

Clemens' lawyer Rusty Hardin did not return a call for comment.

Clemens told at least one friend the drug made him feel flushed and caused his heart to race.

All too aware of the Viagra trend, the World Anti-Doping Agency is funding a new study to determine if Viagra can be used to cheat in sports competition.

Researchers at the University of Miami, Tufts University and Marywood University in Scranton, Pa., are trying to determine if Viagra - officially known as sildenafil citrate - aids training and improves performance.

Anecdotal evidence suggests it does.

Cycling, a sport long tainted by doping, has suffered its own Viagra scandal.

Last month at the Giro d'Italia, Italy's biggest bike race, pro cyclist Andrea Moletta was suspended after the national police searched his father's car and found 82 Viagra pills and a syringe.

I've seen that pic a zillion times and it still makes me snicker.

anyone notice that big breeze coming from up north? strange.

No batter no batter, saaa-wing batter.

Well nobody offered me a contract, but it was an experience...a couple of balls did manage to leave the infield, and there were several whiffs...I even got brushed back by the pitching machine once.
The Fenway security are very anal about their grass...we were'nt allowed on the grass, and a coworker and I were sitting on the wall (we were stationed 3rd base side near the visitors dugout) waiting our turns at bat and were told not to sit on the wall.

A bit hot, but fun, plus free breakfast.

I'll bet Griffey loved hitting number 600 down in the ghost town of the Florida Marlins.

if griffey had been healthy during that 4 year hamstring stretch in cincinatti he'd be approaching 700 homeruns right now instead of just getting to 600.

he really is one of the greatest players we've ever seen, and it's amazing how he's gone from one of the most popular athletes in the world at one point to now, where honestly his career is probably under-rated by most.

If not for injury, Griffey would be mentioned as one of the all time greatest, and with no steroid suspicion to boot.
In his prime he was amazing to watch in the field, and not too shabby with the stick.

He's still one of the all-time greatest. Likely the best all-around player I've ever seen. Glad he fought through his injuries. I wonder if he'll finish his career in Cincy.....

well the met game was just put into rain delay, only it hasn't started raining yet... the wind that's apparently before the huge storm we're supposed to get got so bad that the umps called for the delay... and the grounds crew couldn't get the tarp to stop from blowing around, so billy wagner and scott schoenweiss ran over to help them hold it down. one can only hope aaron heilman was buried underneath said tarp.

Maybe they found a confused Carl Pavano under there.

Everybody tagged Alyssa Milano (I can't get in trouble for that can I?)

Nice, now Pujols goes down. Despite a freakish run of injuries Pedro'sFightingCock fights on and continues to lead fantasy. Can you say...Big Puma??? :)
