Well it's that time of year, folks. A brand new season is upon us, and not a moment too soon!

It should be an interesting year, to say the least. Many questions will be answered: how well will the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers do with their high-profile offseason moves; will Sidney and the rest of the Penguins take the next step and become a league powerhouse; how will Anaheim cope without Scott Neidermayer (me thinks he will pull a Roger Clemens and come back later in the season); and was Dustin Penner worth three first round Oiler draft picks?

I'm interested in the opinion of other Habs fan on this board, such as Mike, as to what they think of Montreal's decision to keep Carey Price. I think his presence can only be a plus as it will push Huet to play the best he can.

Have a good season everyone!!

I'm very excited about this season. I don't pay much attention to any team other than the Canucks, but have resolved to change that this year, if I can. We'll see.

Either way, I'm looking forward to some incredible games. And maybe even a Cup win come June.

My Atlantic Predictions:

Pittsburgh
Rangers
Flyers
Devils
Islanders

That's a tough division. I think the Isles will make the playoffs, which would be ridiculous if all 5 teams go.

I'm mildly apathetic about this season

In my mind it’s not a question if the Leafs will suck this season, it’s more a question of how much will they suck… :sigh:

So far the goalies are my main concern; Raycroft is inconsistent and lets in way to many soft shots and Toskala does not appear to have the ability to stop a beach ball at this point… :tsk:

I predict another winning season followed by a speedy exit from the playoffs by my Wings. They made it to the third round last season, but I really don't know if they can do another run like that again.

And they play the stupid Ducks tomorrow night.

Freaking Hasek (I just want to get that out of the way now, since I know I'll be saying it in April or god willing, May).

I already have my 6 game plan for the dallas stars in december/january and i am looking forward to it,....

They stars did not made big chances for the new season, The defence is still very good but i think the lack of scoring will bring them the first round of the play offs,......and that will be the end again.

I think the rangers will be the team to watch this time.

I scored tickets to the Canucks/Sharks game this Friday night. Can't think of a better way to kick-off my Vancouver week-end!

I was in Toronto over the weekend and picked up a copy of Saturday's Toronto Sun. I burst out laughing when I looked at it: In the skybox on the front page it said "Panic's over, Leafs win" and then the headline on the game report on the inside read "Plan the parade route"

I had a hard time figuring out, based on the story, if the headline was serious or sarcastic. Either way, it made my day!

Sweet! :hi5: Have a great time! Season openers are always fantastic games to go to.

That game was on my list, but I ended up with tickets for the Sharks game on the 15th instead. I'm also seeing Nashville on Nov 1.

I wouldn't mind seeing Pittsburgh doing well this season. Hopefully Crosby will continue to shine. Still going to keep supporting the Canadian teams and hoping for.. gasp.. a Cup victory for any of them.. even those blasted Habs. *shiver* I can't believe I just said that!

Yep, less than 24 hours until I re-adjust to the hockey schedule!
No more wondering what to do on Tuesday and Saturday nights! :hyper: :reject:

I'm a huge Habs fan but caught Sens fever last year as I've lived in the city more than 7 years now - I'll be living in T.O. by next spring so I doubt I'll care very much by then whether Ottawa takes it all but I have a feeling they'll go far! (er, the Sens, not the Leafs but I probably didn't need to elaborate )

As for Carey Price, neither Halak nor Huet have proven to be exceptionally consistent, so i can see why they took a chance on Price. I have a feeling Huet's season will mirror last years in that he'll have a stellar season up until Xmas and then Price will take over and do his thing...

to the bitter end

which, for some, will come sooner than for others

30 mins til it starts! Woohoo, Pierre et Yvon I've missed you!

Go Habs!

In other news, just read Heatley signed on with the Sens for another 6 years (minus, of course, the two months during the playoffs in which he disappears)

Question to all you hockey folks: Are the Flyers any good? Weren't they really terrible last year?

I honestly don't know, I don't really follow the hockey.

Know what's really lovely? I, along with half of Metro Detroit, don't get the station that currently has rights to half of the Wings games.

That sucks. Doesn't Chicago not televise any of the Blackhawk games? Stupid.

Philly should be good this year. They added a couple of real good guys - Daniel Breire is one of the best. Probably won't win the cup, but they should do ok.

Time will tell, of course, but they should be markedly better than last year. Off the top of my head they got, via trade before the deadline or free agency this summer: goaltender Martin Biron, Kimmo Timmonen, Scott Hartnell, Joffrey Lupul and Daniel Briere. So yes, on paper they should be a heck of a lot better, maybe even compete for the top two spots in the Eastern Conference.

Biggest improvement for the Flyers? Bobby Clarke is no longer (that we know of) running the show.

The five of us who post in here are gonna have to keep this up.

Well, I'll join in and help too ... if I can talk about the minor leagues.

Whether pros or minors ... Hockey IS Hockey !!

Yeah, but it's the Hawks so who really cares?

Wings win last night. Wish I could have seen it.

Yikes. Only 19,000 fans show up?

Some friends of mine have been begging us to move to Detroit area. I asked them why I would move to a city that everyone else is trying to leave.

I'd be asking them that, too.

There's a dude in one of my classes this semester who just moved here from California. When he announced that, you could hear the jaws drop.

As soon as I graduate, my ass is out of here.

You should take the rest of you too. There's no use staying in detroit with no ass.

Its the only thing there that people are still buying ...

Brilliant!

I'm hoping the Flyers can rebound, last year was a biiig disappointment. Clarke gone is a big plus, for me he was way to volatile as a GM. You can't run a club that way - guy has a lousy game, dump him for a 4th rounder etc.

Big acquisition in Briere. I saw a lot of him when he played for Springfield in the AHL and he was a real treat. I always hoped he'd make it in the NHL, of course his size worked against him but the new rules help a guy like Briere flourish.

Oh and the Habs beat Carolina  Any Hurricanes loss is a great thing, the fact they won a Stanley Cup is an abomination. Yes, my green-bleeding ass is still bitter, 10 years later. Screw Carolina.
