God, it's such a fucking mess.
It's improving, though some of the fuck-ups I hear about are still astonishing. Whoever funnelled money into the motorway expansions of the 1950s-80s should be shot, because it's turned Auckland into one of the worst cities in the developed world for transport.

Whoever shitcanned the light rail ideas should be hung, drawn and quartered. Bastards.

Oh, I didn't think the airport was served by a railway, at least while I was there. Wish I'd known, might've been better than waiting around for the little shuttle.

And come on, a holiday's a holiday and thus wins!

I've only been to three US states if I don't count airports.

And come on, Chicago's O'Hare is a town unto itself. I've been to Illinois! O'Hare is good enough!
Blue line, always has. but unlike more well-thought-out airports, the blue line is just kinda near the airport, you have to take a shuttle bus from the terminals to get to it.

a holiday doesn't win if it's literally 4 days before summer break and just prolongs the school year.

i've been to just under 20 states sans airports. i don't think i've been to o'hare - when i went to chicago i took the train.

actually you'd appreciate this, like 6 years ago my mom and i took a train trip from boston-ny-philly-pittsburgh-chicago-dc-boston to see baseball games in all those cities (well maryland, the nationals hadn't been moved to dc yet)

Gloria, Rejoice, Tomorrow, and Scarlet are all better than October. Depending on my mood, so are Brick and Fire.

Wow, you totally need to do more of the South Island. One side of my family's from Central Otago, so I know it well. In fact, because of the influence of my Nan (from Earnscleugh, just outside Alexandra) on my mother and her in turn on me, some of my speech resembles that from Central Otago.

According to Wikipedia: "The name comes from the tale of a Māori chief who died after rolling over in his sleep while lying too close to a camp fire."
