That would have been about 800 people dead!

Some of the captioning said this was an optical illusion and that it's impossible to tell from the ground to tell how close they were, but it still looks

i also read it was an optical illusion - it didn't even classify as a near miss, there were apparently more then 3 miles apart or something

its kinda like LOTR - gandalf isn't actually twice the hobbits size, you know, he's just closer to us
:D

It said that 1000 feet vertical is the acceptable distance. I'd say it'd be hard to tell for sure what it was unless you were the DHL pilot.

Although there's a shadow on the tail of the other plane, so who knows.

Hope someone tested the second pilot after he landed!

Look at the sizes of the windows on each plane. They're very different-sized and quite far apart vertically.

Noice optical illusion though

Um...where do you get this math from?

One is a cargo plane...the other holds less than 300 passengers.

Here in the states (this was in England), FAA allows planes to fly with 1,000 foot gaps.

Optical illusion!

I knew you'd come in here and straighten this out!

oh...and I stand corrected....the 777 (depending on the model and JAL's configuration) can hold up to 368 passengers.

The Airbus 300 for DHL is still only carrying cargo...
