Well, we are in yet another World Cup year. All is in readiness...

But who will win? Will France be back-to-back champs? Will Argentina live up to all the media hype? Will Sven's young England team take the honours?

I have to go with my heart and say England here but I honestly think they will do well.

I filled in a full score prediction sheet the other day for the whole tournament and came out with Spain beating France 1-0 in the Final. Gonna have to stick with that!

As for 2002: Argentina.

Outsider: Portugal

Why? France are a bunch of arrogant assholes who'll really overestimate themselves big time this year.

Spain NEVER performs well on big tournaments and ALWAYS performs well in qualification and pre-tournament matches....

England: Beckham has a nice kick but will probably see red and also too little scoring ability. The fact that only 4 of the top 10 topscorers in the permier league says enough. Highest is Shearer at #4 with 15 goals out of which 5 are from penalties.

Germany: On their way back, but not already world-class

Italy: For the love of the game catenaccio football should never win.

Brazil: Not good enough

Argentina: Probably the best team around.

Portugal: Also a very very fine team, but I don't think they can keep the high level all the way through the tournament.

Also, looking back over the past 40 years it is only statistically logical that a south-american team will win this year:

I'm a football fanatic, but I would rather have my football in the lowest league in the world than to be in Yugoslavia - you are right football is nowhere near as important as that!!!

Football world cup, eh? I'm gonna have to go with the Patriots; they were Super Bowls champs after all. Then again, the Rams are sure to be tough after their SB loss, and feel like they have something to prove.

I'm reduced to making jokes like this since Canada is something like the 84th ranked country in the world for soccer.
