Please vote for the tracklisting you LIKE THE MOST.

Welcome to the third heat of the first round of the Symphonic Album Mini-Game. The object of this game is to see which forum member can create the best concept album no longer than 80 minutes.

Screwtape2 has won the first heat, defeating the Supertracklist, 9-6. Since we'll be using the same point system from the previous game, the Supertracklist will pick up a point for finishing within three votes. An update on the standings will be posted after the completion of each round.

For Heat 3, we have LemonMelon battling CuteIrishBono. Below are their playlists.

If you don't know the songs, or wish to hear how each tracklisting flows, leave your e-mail address and we'll help you out. :)

Tracklist Title: Suspicion & Intrigue

This playlist was originally conceived as the soundtrack to an imaginary espionage flick about a secret agent who's called upon to track down a serial killer. Ultimately, things go awry, and he finds himself on the run, leaving his lover and previous life behind for his own safety. The relationship he previously had falls apart, and he pines for his simpler life. Regardless, he has to piece his life together and finish the job. The playlist has changed a bit, but it remains a darkly sensual experience. Even though it doesn't tell the story from start to finish, pieces of the plot pop up from time to time, and I believe it does an excellent job of conjuring up the appropriate atmosphere.

1. Massive Attack - "Angel" - Mezzanine (6:18)
2. R.E.M. - "Suspicion" - Up (5:37)

Have fun!

Looking at my song rating scores for these two lists, it's pretty close. I haven't listened to these for a week or two so I'd better listen to 'em again before deciding.

Just listening through CuteIrishBono's right now and I'd better type this before I forget. There are some really cool new songs on here for me that I like a lot -- from The Stills, The Shins, The Vines and Dispatch. Also, of course I love Window In The Skies and Here Comes The Sun. I've never liked More Than A Feeling, though. The Jeff Buckley, Queen and All Star United songs don't do that much for me. Overall, it's a very good list and I'd be happy to take it on the road, skipping over the Boston song.

About to listen to LemonMelon's again.

Cute Irish Bono's was pretty good, but LemonMelon's got a good list here. His theme is very precise and, as he put it, the atmosphere is there the whole way. He gets my vote.

Well, these two lists are really about tied for me on overall song strength. So I have to look at other factors. I'm voting for Cute Irish Bono's list based on the fact that it's more upbeat, and it introduced me to several good new songs. LemonMelon has a big lead anyway, so maybe my vote can help Cute Irish Bono get points for being within 4 votes or whatever it is.

LemonMelon gets credit for some great tracks from R.E.M., Radiohead, Peter Gabriel (love to see Darkness on here) and Muse.

For those curious, my original list looked like this:

1. Massive Attack - Angel
2. REM - Suspicion
3. The Verve - Slide Away
4. Radiohead - National Anthem
5. Passengers - Always Forever Now
6. Jefferson Airplane - A Small Package Of Value Will Come To You, Shortly
7. Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.
8. My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow
9. Peter Gabriel - Darkness
10. Beck - Movie Theme
11. Keane - Is It Any Wonder?
12. Spoon - Anything You Want
13. Interpol - Obstacle 1
14. Bjork - Hunter
15. Pulp - I Spy
16. Muse - Hysteria
17. The Velvet Underground - Here She Comes Now
18. Passengers - Your Blue Room

Obviously, this list was unusable because there are two songs from Passengers, one song I used on DI3, and a clutch of songs that didn't fit into the plot at all. This set is a movie soundtrack, while the set I entered is a concept album. That's the difference.

This heat really is a draw for me. I thought both lists worked very well, and the amount of songs I liked was about even. LemonMelon has Suspicion and Darkness, two excellent songs that I really enjoy. Props for including Yes as well. Kudos to CuteIrishBono for including a Guster song - I think that's the first time someone else had them on their list besides myself.

In terms of concept, I thought LemonMelon's was a little better, so that swung my vote.
