for me, nothing represents summer like the pop album.

Don Henley - 'Boys of Summer'

I like going with obvious choices

Anything by The Breeders - Cannonball especially, but the whole Last Splash album is good fun rock that I listened to a lot one summer.

yup, yup, yup. I second these recommendations.

And my own are
Feeder - Just a Day
The Coral - Dreaming of you
Pulp - Common People
Plug in Baby - Muse
Just a Girl - No Doubt
Soak up the sun - Sheryl Crow

hope that helps

Pretty much anything by The Beach Boys. Cool New Wave '80s girl bands like The Bangles and Go-Gos have a lot of that fun summer stuff. Early Madonna (does it get any better than "Holiday"?). Maybe some California punk-pop like Blink-182 and No Doubt.
