Update:

I wimped out and instead emailed him about some jazz and blues albums. He responded that it would be best for us to "hook up sometime" to further discuss the subject. He asked me if I'd like to be in his class next semester. Previously a different prof was teaching it, but now he is. It's black popular music, and he said it would be cool to "have someone in the class who's into music". Well, I figured most people in the class would be into music anyway. :laugh:
