A melody is different than a riff.

I think you need to seperate the two.

And my example has to be Oasis.

SHES ELECTRIC.

I'll be you and you'll be me, there's lots and lots for us to see, lots and lots for us to do.

is in an old tv show which i cant remember the name of now.

'And I want you to know, got my mind made up now"

is obviously from The Beatles' 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'.

and thats just the beginning

The biggest rip-off to date:

"Mandy" by Barry Manilow

and

"Razorblade" by The Strokes.

The choruses have basically the exact same melody

----------------------------------

and as far as riffs go, Oasis ripped themselves off (along with the Beatles) with "Married With Children" and "She's Electric" having basically the same chords (at least during the verses). And please, no one tell me they are allowed to do that because they are both their own songs, cuz I already know that.

Bob Dylan is also good in nicking melodies and using them for his own songs.
Blind Willie McTell is using the music of St. James Infirmary
Masters Of War is using Nottamun Town (original by Bob Davenport)
Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat uses Automobile by Sam "Lightnin'" Hopkins
With God On Our Side is based on The Patriot Game by Dominic Behan

And not to mention the many songs based on old folk tunes.

The melody isn't identical, but the way it's sung is the same.

Pink Floyd - Eclipse

"All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel.
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save.
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy,
Beg, borrow or steal.
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say
All that you eat
And everyone you meet"
etc.

Is ripped off by...

U2 - Walk On

"All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break
All that you measure
All that you feel
All this you can leave behind
All that you reason
All that you sense
All that you scheme
All you dress-up
All that you've seen
All you create
All that you wreck
All that you hate..."

I'll never forgive Bono for that one.

I seriously doubt that was what Bono was thinking of when he wrote the song.

Not lyrically but the guitar riff was stolen by edge, but he made it sound so much better
I saw a magazine article allege that, but I'd say its just similar.

Maybe not. But it's still a rather amazing coincidence, don't you think?

"All you create

"All you create

Yes, an amazing coincidence.

George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" and the Chiffon's "He's So Fine."
The copyright holders to "He's So Fine" won a lawsuit for that one.

The piano intro for Don't Look Back In Anger by Oasis is kinda similar(ish) to the piano part for Imagine....

Also, the new Madonna song is a rip off of this Abba song (mental block - can't remember the name)
