I thought the article would be longer in the mag than the online version. I hate when I've read the entire article before I get the magazine. It's such a let down.

I read it online. They have a real interesting story/history. But I suppose many rock bands have a story or two. LOL

I'm sorry, I have to keep bumping this thread.

I was listening to the album AGAIN in my new car, driving in manhattan on a glorious day. There are moments in this album where g0d has walked into the studio and said "Here, take this." and poof, certain songs or bits of songs appeared.

All of "Snow"
the ending of "Wet Sand"
"Especially in Michigan" - background chanting w/ the accompanying music
All of "Slow Cheetah"
the verses of "C'Mon Girl"
the emotion in "Hard to Concentrate"
First 20 seconds of "Strip My Mind" - Whoah, Yeah, yeah, Ooowoah woah Yeah"

I could go on and on

My wife, not a Chili Pepper fan at all, says upon listening to "Snow" for perhaps the 3rd time said that this song put her in a happy trance and absolutely adores it.

Numb, you're totally right. The peppers completely tap into some sort of universal spirit. How can you not feel connected to a higher power listening to about half of these songs?

exactly. Similar to what Bono says about songs like "One" - when they come up w/ the riff, it's like g0d walked into the room.

A bit off-topic, but their cover of Love Rollercoaster is outstanding

same with Higher Ground and If You Want Me to Stay.

^agreed.
Question: With every album they make, the songs I dislike shrink. For instance, I only like about half of Mother's Milk and I virtually love every song on their latest. It has progressed every album. Is this true for anyone else?

I agree for the most part. Some of their sillier stuff from back in the day is unlistenable to me and that includes about 5 songs from Mother's Milk.

I hope you aren't including BSSM in that quote, because that album ranks up there w/ the best.

They're probably one of the few bands where they have stuff that I find absolutely brilliant and stuff that can, at times, verge on being dreadful! I know most bands have stuff that is good and not so good, but with the Chili Peppers there seem to be more songs in either extreme - at least for me there are.

Mother's Milk is probably the best example of this - from songs like Knock Me Down and Taste the Pain to Magic Johnson and Nobody Weird Like Me

I agree Tilli - they do have some dreadful songs.....but BSSM, Californication, and Stadium Arcadium are excellent.

By the Way had a couple of duds as did One Hot Minute and Mother's Milk.
