Yeah, that was a pretty shitty way to "world premiere" a new song. Short and muddled. The song seems pretty unremarkable. Not too good, not too bad. There's no way that it's the lead single. But the whistling isn't anything to get worked up over. If Bruce wants to whistle, well then dammit, let Bruce whistle!!! He's more than earned his whistling privileges.

Can't say I'm very impressed either, but I do recognize how it was all chopped up without much of the verses and no bridge. Hopefully there is a sax solo in there somewhere to help it.

I do like Bruce's vocals, though.

And right on cue, the new album annoucement came this morning...

Bruce Springsteen's 'Working On A Dream' Set For January 27 Release On Columbia Records

Bruce Springsteen's new album 'Working on a Dream' has been set for January 27 release on Columbia Records. 'Working on a Dream' was recorded with the E Street Band and features twelve new Springsteen compositions plus two bonus tracks. It is the fourth collaboration between Springsteen and Brendan O'Brien, who produced and mixed the album.

'Working on a Dream' Song Titles:

1. Outlaw Pete
2. My Lucky Day
3. Working On a Dream
4. Queen of the Supermarket
5. What Love Can Do
6. This Life
7. Good Eye
8. Tomorrow Never Knows
9. Life Itself
10. Kingdom of Days
11. Surprise, Surprise
12. The Last Carnival

Bonus tracks:
The Wrestler
A Night with the Jersey Devil

Bruce Springsteen said, "Towards the end of recording 'Magic,' excited by the return to pop production sounds, I continued writing. When my friend producer Brendan O'Brien heard the new songs, he said, 'Let's keep going.' Over the course of the next year, that's just what we did, recording with the E Street Band during the breaks on last year's tour. I hope 'Working on a Dream' has caught the energy of the band fresh off the road from some of the most exciting shows we've ever done. All the songs were written quickly, we usually used one of our first few takes, and we all had a blast making this one from beginning to end."

'Working on a Dream' is Bruce Springsteen's twenty-fourth album and was recorded and mixed at Southern Tracks in Atlanta, GA with additional recording in New York City, Los Angeles, and New Jersey.

I don't know about some of those song titles. This is looking more and more like a true leftovers album that is being rushed out, despite Bruce's comments.

I like how they added Jersey Devil and The Wrestler, though.

I can see it now. Clarence is unable to go anymore, so all possible sax solos have now been replaced by whistling.

"Originally we wrote the parts for Clarence to play sax on but he wasn't able to get out of bed, and seeing as we had only one take I whistled it. Quite new territory for us I feel."

I'm curious about the album nonetheless I'm not the biggest Springsteen fan but he's amazing live

pity the song was cut up to fit that montage!

Sounds amazing to me tho, more magic from THE BOSS!

I guess we will have to wait for the Superbowl to hear it properly

The new song sounds like something from The Rising, except he only spent 5 minutes writing and arranging it.

Meh.

I'm reasonably excited about the new album, though. Magic was pretty consistent, so hopefully the leftovers aren't too much lower in quality.

Alright, so here's the deal. If Bruce is going on tour next year I'm going to demand that one of you buys my ticket, drives me to the concert, and pays for my beer and concert T-Shirt. This is non-negotiable. Who wants to help a brother out?

:hmm: we would be seeing him in the same city.

I'm gonna have to go with a no on this one GAF.

I could afford your ticket and t-shirt, but I don't think I can afford to keep your beer needs satisfied. ;)

haha you're probably right.

But, in all seriousness, I have never seen the BROOOCE live and I will be doing everything in my power to see him in 2009. I think it's pretty safe to assume that he'll be doing at least a little bit of touring for this album, right?

I sure hope so - I want to see him again as often as possible, even if that means I spend more dough on Bruce tickets than U2 tickets, should they tour at the same time. :shh:

I'm listening to a really crappy bootleg of the Bruce/Billy Joel Obama benefits from New York on 10/16/08. It's mostly unlistenable, unfortunately, but I can hear enough that I really hope a better quality bootleg hits the scene soon.

Someone at Backstreets heard it had been filmed or recorded but was going to be offered to Obama campaign workers as a "thank you" sometime down the road.

If that's true, man I hope that leaks.
