Don't forget "Shakedown on 9th Street" by Ryan Adams ("Lucy, Lucy my gal...")

(I'm turning into Kat, I can just feel it.)

Pax...  :D

Hey, Beth!!! Ryan Adams has a song called "For Beth"...

As pretty as a song
A song could ever be
Like Christmas on a river
Without a boat or Christmas tree
This afternoon with you was something like a letter
The kind that someone writes but never sends
And when you look at me
You remind me that someday it's gonna end
And when you pass on
God, I bet you miss your friends

As simple as a breeze (or she's moving like the wing)
Tugging hard up on the sail
Been moving through these streets forever
From Istanbul to Amsterdam
This afternoon with you was something like a letter
The kind that someone writes but never sends
And when you look at me
You remind me that someday it's gonna end
And when you pass on
Man, I bet you miss your friends

As pretty as a song
A song could ever be
Like Christmas on a river
Without a boat or Christmas tree
This afternoon with you was something like a letter
The kind that someone writes but never sends
And when you look at me
You remind me that someday it's gonna end
And when we pass on
Man, I bet we miss our friends
Miss your friends
Miss your friends

Oh...and for Lucy...here are the lyrics...

"Shakedown on 9th Street" - Ryan Adams

Head on down to 9th street gal
Let's go out a kicking with the boys and the gals
Wear your dress and bring my ring
Someone's gonna get it, ain't gonna be me

Lucy, Lucy my gal (Lucy, Lucy my gal)
Lucy, Lucy my sweet (Lucy, Lucy my sweet)
Lucy, Lucy my gal (Lucy, Lucy my gal)

I was just gonna hit him but I'm gonna kill him now

We all met about a half past three
Lucy, she was rockin by my kicking machine
Too many straights and not enough grease
That's when Lucy got it in the chest, I think

Lucy, Lucy my gal (Lucy, Lucy my gal)
Lucy, Lucy my sweet (Lucy, Lucy my sweet)
Lucy, Lucy my gal (Lucy, Lucy my gal)

I was just gonna hit him but I'm gonna kill him now

They started fighting I was screaming for him
Boots all dirty and sexy and thin
On come the lights from the straights in their cars
I was just a laughing when I hit the floor

Lucy, Lucy my gal (Lucy, Lucy my gal)
Lucy, Lucy my sweet (Lucy, Lucy my sweet)
Lucy, Lucy my gal (Lucy, Lucy my gal)

I was just gonna hit him but I'm gonna kill him now

"Catherine" by PJ Harvey:

Catherine De Barra, you've murdered my thinking
I gave you my heart, you left the thing stinking
I'd break from your spell if it weren't for my drinking
And the wind bites more bitter with each light of morning.
I envy the road, the ground you tread under,
I envy the wind, your hair riding over,
I envy the pillow your head rests and slumbers,
I envy to murderous envy your lover
'til the light shines on me
I damn to hell every second you breath
I envy
Oh my Catherine
For your eyes smiling
And your mouth singing
With time I'd have won you
With wile I'd have won you
For your mouth singing

actually, go to http://www.allmusic.com
Type your name into the search, hit SONGS, and VOILA! You'd be surprised! There ARE MORE songs out there with Kelly, Megan, and Daniel than you would imagine! (BG84, I didn't know your name or I would have looked it up too). Try it out. A lot of the stuff is really obscure, but hey! It's something, no?

And who knew David Bowie wrote a song with my name in it?

Oh my love,Janine
I'm helpless for your smile.
Like a Polish wanderer,
I travel onwards to your land.
And were it not just for the jewels I'd close your hand
Your strange demand
To 'collocate' my mind
Scares me into gloom.
You're too intense,
I'll have to keep you in your place.
I've no defence.
I've got to keep the veil on my face.
Janine,Janine, you'd like to know me well,
But I've got things inside my head
That even I can't face.
Janine,Janine, you'd like to crash my walls,
But if you take an axe to me
You'll kill another man
Not me at all.
You're fey, Janine,
A tripper to the last.
But if I catch you standing on my toes
I'll have a right to shout you down.
For you're a lazy stream
In which my thoughts would drown.
So stay, Janine
And we can glide along.
I've caught your for laughs,
I'm not obliged to read you statements of the year.
So take your glasses off
And don't act so sincere.
Janine,Janine, you'd like to know me well,
But I've got things inside my head
That even I can't face.
Janine,Janine, you'd like to crash my walls,
But if you take an axe to me
You'll kill another man
Not me at all.

Off the top of my head...

Jennifer's Body by Hole

Jenifa Taught Me by DeLa Soul

Jennifer Juniper by Donovan (?)

Turn the Radio Up by Eric Carmen? "Jennifer's singing Stand By Me, and she knows every single word by heart..." Whatever that song is!

There's probably more, but that's what I can think of right now. It was the most popular name of the 70s and 80s in America, after all.

Whoa! I just checked that website. There are about 70 songs with "Jennifer" in the title.

haha *looks up all the songs about him

Martha, I think I'm right in saying the song is actually about Jane Asher, with her name substituted...if that makes you feel any better :D

I did, The Sweetest Thing...it was on the Space Oddity album:)
I grew up with every one singing the song "Pamela Pamela" to me, an old song, I'm not sure who had a hit with it,waaaaaaaaaay back then.
I just did a google search and found out Toto have a song called "Pamela" . No doubt some punk band or other has written a song in homage to Pamela Anderson or at least parts of her anatomy?
Pamela by Toto
"Side by side I'll be yours forever
Yes I will Rain or shine
Any kind of weather
Any kind

There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you
Let's take what's getting old and make it new

Eye to eye It's a blinding confrontation
I said you and I are a deadly combination

So don't start mixing truth with jealousy
The road we're on is clear as far as I can see

Pamela
Don't break this heart of mine
Just remember it may not heal this time
Pamela
There is no second chance
For the one who leaves it all behind

Black and white Always go together
And on day and night
You're the precious jewel I treasure

Wanting every part of you is not a crime
Could it be that you're the one who's wrong this time

Pamela
Don't break this heart of mine
Just remember it may not heal this time
Pamela
There is no second second chance
For the one who leaves it all behind
Leave all

Oh Pamela
Thousands of miles away but always in my heart

Pamela
So don't break this heart of mine
Just remember it may not heal this time
Pamela
There is no second chance
For the one who leaves it all behind

Pamela
Don't break this heart of mine
Just remember it may not heal this time
Pamela
There is no second chance
For the one who leaves it all
Leave all beind

I still love you little girl
I still love you
And you know it little Pamela
I still love you yes I do
And you know it little Pamela
Come on
Oh little Pamela"

aww that's kinda sweet, pamelita. And lotsa mentions of "behind"...that would be rightI Actually , shades of ATYCLB? My behind, the baggage I have no choice butt to bring.

I just found the old one I grew up with. It is by Graham Gouldman
Pamela, Pamela (1966)

Pamela, Pamela Remember the days
Of inkwells and apples And books and school plays
Where little Brer Rabbit kissed Pooh in the wood
And Fluff was the cat that sat on the rug
Oh, Pamela
I remember so well

When Laurel and Hardy were shown at the flicks
With sticky red lollies on splintery sticks
Pigtails and ribbons and crushes on miss
Secret discussions about a first kiss
But you were young
And everything was new
Impatient to do things you couldn't do
Oh, Pamela, Pamela
You started to grow
Answers to questions you wanted to know

When the rest of your childhood Forgets as a dream
And the harshness of life Dims those peaches and cream

When Laurel and Hardy were shown at the flicks
With sticky red lollies on splintery sticks
Pigtails and ribbons and crushes on miss
Secret discussions about a first kiss
But you were young And everything was new
Impatient to do things you couldn't do.....

Pame laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
:)

More Rick Springfield!

This is another classic by Rick Springfield...and I even have it on vinyl!! It's soooo horribly cheesy!

Kristina

Counting the headlights passing two by two
Searching the stream of steel and chrome
I'm looking for love, I know you're looking too
So rev up your heart and take me home
A wish and a prayer won't get me there tonight
Longing to hold you

Kristina, take me away
Take me away with you
Kristina, I'm wasting away
I wanna be with you

Kristina, take me away
Take me away with you
Kristina, I'm wasting away
I wanna be with you

I know you like to drive it hard and fast
You tear up the speed zone in my heart
Just give me one night to prove our love can last
I can make love a work of art
A wish and a prayer won't get me there tonight
Longing to hold you

Kristina, take me away
Take me away with you
Kristina, I'm wasting away
I wanna be with you

Kristina, take me away
Take me away with you
Kristina, I'm wasting away
I wanna be with you

Kristina, take me away
Take me away with you
Kristina, I'm wasting away
I wanna be with you

Kristina, take me away
Take me away with you
Kristina

Don't forget,
Danny Boy- Various Artists

*Shudders at the mention of this song* (we had to sing it in choir last year...I got soooooo sick of that song...)

"Daniel" by Elton John is a good song. I like that one.

This is a good way for me to learn your guys' names if you don't put them in your posts already.

Someone mentioned "Trevor" by U2...I have never heard that song...I didn't even know they did a song called "Trevor"!

YAY!!

It does make me feel better. Jane Asher was dreadfully boring if I remember rightly, but still better than a sheepdog, as much as I love doggies!

"Proud Mary" by Ike and Tina Turner (or the CCR version).
"Mary's Place" by Bruce Springsteen.

And you can also name the rest of Springsteen's songs (or at least half of them). :) Mary Queen Of Arkansas comes to mind, The River  and many others have a character named Mary in them.

C ya!

Marty (who's going to check out AllMusic)

Edit: AllMusic found nothing :(

I've got Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles and Eleanor by the Turtles. Luckily, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes cover the second one giving me a song with my name in it that isn't wholly depressing and/or just pop.

The 80s song "Oh Sheila" by Ready For The World.

Whenever this was playing on the radio in the schoolbus, everyone would look at me and I'd be all  .

Like I always say what's good for the gaze
Is always good for the camera
oh Sheila, oh, oh

2-Oh baby love me right
Let me love you till I get it right, hmm
Can't you let the others be
'Cause with you is where I got to be

Oh, sugar where you been
Hangin' out with your male friends
Listen, somebody's going to hurt you
The way you love, to keep hurting me, we say

1-Oh oh Sheila let me love you
Till the morning comes
Oh oh Sheila you know I want
To be the only one

3-Oh baby, understand that I want
To be the only man

But it seems you're screaming too hard
Now think yourself to have an only friend
Oh baby, it's plain to see
That you're qualified to fill my needs

4-I think you threw an oath on me
Honey, baby, just you wait and see

And we say
(repeat 1)

Oh baby, it's 1-2-3
I love you baby honestly, hmm, I want to
Di a di da li a di a di da li

Oh, oh Sheila...

Also nothing for me. With a name like Martijn I'm of course limited to songs in the Dutch language.

How is your name pronounced? Is it like "Mar-tyne"?

Well...if your name is pronounced like Mar-tin, then there's TONS of songs! Or look up Marty at allmusic. Randy Newman wrote 3 songs about Marty! :D :hyper:

Yeah, well... My actual name is Martijn (you kinda pronounce the end like you pronounce wine or so (or like in Anton Corbijn :D)), so if I want to look for a song named after me, I want to look for one named exactly like my name. But I guess I have to see if there's a Dutch site with this function. Oh well, you can't have it all... :)

C ya!

Marty

P.S. Randy Newman

I'm a little late for this, but I don't think my real name has ever made it into a song. My screen name, however, is on Freaky Styley by the RHCP (I had no idea it was Dr. Seuss until I found the book in Borders one day).

Martha My Dear, The Beatles

:|

Yes, I know. It's about Paul's big ole sheepdog that he had. He named it Martha.

ditto. I always thought it was about the sheepdog, too.

Here's another one for us, martha--and it's a beautiful song. You MUST run out and buy the CD right away. The whole CD is a masterpiece beginning to end, but our song makes it extra sweet. My college boyfriend says he will be haunted by the song for the rest of his life.

Martha by Tom Waits (from Closing Time)

Operator, number, please:
it's been so many years
Will she remember my old voice
while I fight the tears?
Hello, hello there, is this Martha?
this is old Tom Frost,
And I am calling long distance,
don't worry 'bout the cost.
'Cause it's been forty years or more,
now Martha please recall,
Meet me out for coffee,
where we'll talk about it all.

And those were the days of roses,
poetry and prose and Martha
all I had was you and all you had was me.
There was no tomorrows,
we'd packed away our sorrows
And we saved them for a rainy day.

And I feel so much older now,
and you're much older too,
How's your husband?
and how's the kids?
you know that I got married too?
Lucky that you found someone
to make you feel secure,
'Cause we were all so young and foolish,
now we are mature.

And those were the days of roses,
poetry and prose and Martha
all I had was you and all you had was me.
There was no tomorrows,
we'd packed away our sorrows
And we saved them for a rainy day.

And I was always so impulsive,
I guess that I still am,
And all that really mattered then
was that I was a man.
I guess that our being together
was never meant to be.
And Martha, Martha,
I love you can't you see?

And those were the days of roses,
poetry and prose and Martha
all I had was you and all you had was me.
There was no tomorrows,
we'd packed away our sorrows
And we saved them for a rainy day.

And I remember quiet evenings
trembling close to you...

Off the top pf my head, I have two songs. Good ones too! :D

"Christina" by Patti Smith

and.... my favourite  "Kristina" by Howie Day

:| Yanni has a song called "Christina Dies"

Christina Boogie - Memphis Slim

:crack: Then there is Jimmy Souls "Go 'Way Christina"........... :slant:

Ok... I don't want to play anymore.

Hehe. Just found another song with my name in it...The Smiths' "Sheila Take A Bow"

Is it wrong to want to live on your own ?
No, it's not wrong-but I must know
How can someone so young
Sing words so sad?
Sheila take a, Sheila take a bow
Boot the grime of this world in in the crotch, dear
And don't go home tonight
Come out and find the one that you love and who loves you
Is it wrong not to always be glad
No, it's not wrong-but I must add
How can someone so young
Sing words so sad?
Sheila take a, Sheila take a bow
Boot the grime of this world in the crotch, dear
And don't go home tonight
Come out and find the one that you love and who loves you
Take my hand and off we stride
You're a girl and I'm a boy
Take my hand and off we stride
I'm a girl and you're a boy
Sheila take a, Sheila take a bow
Throw your homework on to the fire
Come out and find the one that you love
Come out and find the one that you love
