So what's the most embarassing ride you've ever owned?

Pretty much every car I've owned until recently was crap. Of course having to drive Mom's wagon with the "wood" on the sides to high school was embarassing at the time, but at least I had the satisfaction of knowing I didn't own it.

Unfortunately I did own a Chevy Sprint in college (the predecessor of the Geo Metro). It had a 3 cylinder engine (yes, I said 3). It wasn't in bad shape...until I had a little accident. I lost the back bumper cover and put a dent in the middle of the front bumper, so that both ends of the bumper bowed out a bit. Of course I didn't carry anything but laibility insurance on it, so I couldn't afford to fix it. My dad decided to help out one day though by building me a bumper cover for the back ... out of wood, painted black with reflector stickers on it! "Pimp My Ride" hillbilly style.

1983 pale blue ford escort named affectionately "tort" get it - escort - tort hatchback design - no AC no FM radio - had to have a "boom box" in back seat to listen to music - bumper fell off at one point - can't exactly pinpoint when
tort was donated to the American Kidney Association as tax write off was better than trade in
still miss tort

I loved my first car...a 1983 Pontiac Grand Prix. She had T-tops and gold honeycomb wheels. My parents had bought it when I was 5 years old (in 1987), and I bought it from them for $1000 when I turned 16. My friends affectionately nicknamed her "Ghetto Cruiser" and "The Love Boat". Unfortunately, she burned oil badly...I hated it when we were stopped somewhere, and we would suddenly be enveloped by a cloud of blue smoke. She was a fun car though.

I got my first car when I was 16 (1990). It was my grandparents car and they gave it to me when I was 15. It sat in our driveway rotting for a year. It was a 1976 hideous tan/yellow Buick Skylark. It was a two door and the doors weighed a ton. There was literally no floor for my feet. It rusted away. My dad had to put layers of old license plates on the floor and then a bunch of floor pads. When I went over a puddle my feet got wet. Let's just say I had a trunk full of extra shoes and socks for rainy days. There was no radio. It made a really loud noise until the engine warmed up. I could only drive with a 1/2 tank of gas at all times because there was something wrong with the fuel system so I was at the gas station just about every other day getting gas. I had to put the car in park at a long stop light and step on the gas so the car wouldn't die. And the best part of all was I was a HUGE Kiss fan so the entire back of the car had Kiss stickers all over it and the side windows in the back had Kiss window clings. The car was so noisy, bright in color, and then those ridiculous stickers I had all over the place, you could see and hear me coming a mile away.

I wish I would have taken pictures of it but I don't think I ever did.

1983 chrysler New Yorker - milky white, leather interior . I'm sure it was a great pimp ride back in it's day but we owned it in 95. The damn thing wouldn't quit stalling. That was the most embarassing thing. No mechanic could figure out why it stalled. Hated that car.

when i was 8, i had a scooter. not a motorpowered thing or one of those things that were popular a couple years ago, the front wheel was about half the diameter of a normal kids' bike, and the back wheel was like training wheel sized. and it was blue, with a white and yellow checkerboard pattern on the part where you'd stand...

i got some wrenches and plyers and took it apart when i was 10...

I have only ever had 2 cars:

This was my first car, bought when I was 19. It looked like this when I got it:

and this when I was finished with it:

I really really didn't want to sell it but I needed the money to fund my RTW trip a couple of years ago.

My second car was a boring Ford that looked like this one:
