Currently, I am reading "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. It's pretty dang funny, I must say!!

After this book? I'm not really sure. A few people have recommended "The Alchemist," so I'll probably check that out sooner or later. After reading the replies in this thread, I *was* thinking of reading "Tipping the Velvet." Then I looked up to see what it was about... It sounds so saucy! Honestly, I'm not really sure if that's my type of book...perhaps there's more to it than the description I read gives it credit for? Hmm...

"tipping the velvet" was a TV series here recently. I didn't watch it..not much use eh?

you may not wish to know this, but I keep a collection of books in "the smallest room in the house" I have even just installed a bookshelf in there the other day. It has to be something that doesn't( oh I'll behave... I just thought of something funny)
that doesn't take too long/command to much attention.
I have
#1 "Almaniac- A Womans' Guide To Domestic Insanity" It has one page devoted to each day of the year, feminist humour/words of wisdom/funny and it's amazing how often it has been relevant to my situation.
#2"Thousands of Great Australian Facts" I read a page a day and I've learned lots already
#3"Ireland Guide- Bord Failte"...that's my dream book, when I do get there, I'll know exactly which road to take

but on a serious note, i recently read the first part of the book series Northern Lights i thought it was not a bad book

After reading the replies in this thread, I *was* thinking of reading "Tipping the Velvet." Then I looked up to see what it was about... It sounds so saucy! Honestly, I'm not really sure if that's my type of book...perhaps there's more to it than the description I read gives it credit for? Hmm...

There is *so* much more to it than the descriptions on amazon and such. There's no more "saucy" content in it than in any book which involves romance/relationships, it's just that all the reviewers seem to act as though it's practically pornography just because it involves gay characters.

I also think Northern Lights (and the other two books in the trilogy - The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass) is excellent - highly recommended.
