I once heard this joke, I laughed cause it was just plain stupid.

" how many smiths fan's does it take to screw in a lightbulb"?

" none, theres a light on, and it never goes out".

Sure, Morrissey's OK but you want great lyrics? You want Billy Bragg!!!!!

The Polaroids that hold us together
Will surely fade away
Like the love that we spoke of forever
On St Swithin's Day.

In the end it took me a dictionary
To find out the meaning of unrequited

And you're the kind of girl who wants to
Open up the bottle of pop too early in the journey
Our love went flat, just like that

Girl, I love you so much that baby it's such
I'd walk a mile with a stone in my shoe
And that's the price I pay for loving you the way that I do

It doesn't matter the colour of the car
But what goes on beneath the bonnet
Is there a flag that flies above your heart
And is my name writ there upon it
Wedding cake and toothache
Equals love and pain

how can you lie there and think of England,
when you don´t even know who`s in the team?

When you're in as deep as we are, honey,
It's so easy to get washed out to sea;
For the facts of life are not man and wife
But man and woman, sadly,
And the apple that don't wanna get eaten
Will still fall off the tree...
I woke up this morning to find we have outlived the myth of trust

I love you, I am the milkman of human kindness
I will leave an extra pint

I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them, but they were only satellites
Is it wrong to wish on space hardware?
I wish, I wish, Iwish you'd care

All my friends at school
Introduce me to their spouses
While i'm left standing here
With my hands down the front of my trousers

Genius!

He also wrote a pile of shit song about Iraq called 'The Price Of Oil'. And covered 'Garageland' badly.

I bought it this past spring when it came out. I'm such a dork.

So, goodbye
Please stay with your own kind
And I'll stay with mine

There's something against us
It's not time
It's not time
So, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

I know I need hardly say
How much I love your casual way
Oh, but please put your tongue away
A little higher and we're well away
The dark nights are drawing in
And your humour is as black as them
I look at yours, you laugh at mine
And "love" is just a miserable lie
You have destroyed my flower-like life
Not once - twice
You have corrupt my innocent mind
Not once - twice
I know the wind-swept mystical air
It means : I'd like to see your underwear
I recognise that mystical air
It means : I'd like to seize your underwear
What do we get for our trouble and pain ?
Just a rented room in Whalley Range
What do we get for our trouble and pain ?
...Whalley Range !
Into the depths of the criminal world
I followed her ...

Quick, arrest Billy for crimes against the Clash!

Everybody's got a dud song in them.

Crimes against the Clash are, well, criminal.

That said I do love his early stuff. 'A New England' is lovely. I even like his version of 'The Internationale'.

That said his voice is awful. Which suits me fine because I can sing along in a faux-cockney accent.
