Recently I've noticed that singer songwriters have been receiving more exposure. A few that I can think of off the top of my head are:

Ryan Adams
John Mayer
David Gray
Pete Yorn
Jack Johnson

I enjoy all of their music and would recommend it to all.

What do you think of those mentioned above and what other artists should be included on this list?

Well, if you are just naming male singer/songwriters, than perhaps you've named the current good ones.

If you are welcoming female suggestions,
PJ Harvey, Aimee Mann and Jane Jensen should not be missed.

Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory;
Odours, when sweet violets sicken,
Live within the sense they quicken.
