Since it's the Christmas/Holiday Season...

I make a new CD every year and find cool new versions of classic Christmas songs.

"Christmastime" by The Smashing Pumpkins
"Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" by U2
"Do They Know It's Christmas?" by Band Aid
"Happy Christmas (The War is Over)" by John Lennon
"Santa Claus is Coming to Town" by BRUUUUUUCE.
and "The Chanakuh Song" by Adam Sandler are my absolute favorites.

What songs do you listen to to get into that Holiday mood?

I like Wintersong, the new Sarah McLachlan song-and her version of River, but the original River is the best of course

my all time fave might be the Bowie/Bing Crosby Little Drummer Boy

Christmas Wrapping -The Waitresses

Merry Christmas Baby and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town by Bruce

Nutcracker Suite and Charlie Brown Christmas

And I like Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer

The entire "A Charlie Brown Christmas" album. I'm not a jazz fan, but this CD is bliss.

I made a CD like this last year for light-looking with my old girlfriend including:

Coldplay - 2000 Miles
Coldplay - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Some of the Sufjan Christmas songs
Selections from the Bright Eyes Christmas album

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I haven't visited the boards in a while, and I was dancing over to this forum to post about this record. So, so lovely.

"First Noel/Mary Mary" is my favorite so far.

Here's a holiday mix I made last Christmas that I'm listening to again this year:

1. Run DMC - Christmas in Hollis
2. U2 - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
3. Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band - Little Drummer Boy
4. Alison Moyet - Coventry Carol
5. Eurythmics - Winter Wonderland
6. Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band - Merry Christmas Baby
7. Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band - Santa Claus Is Coming to Town
8. Sting - I Saw Three Ships
9. Chris Cornell and Eleven - Ave Maria
10. Tracy Chapman - O Holy Night
11. Patti Smith - We Three Kings
12. John Lennon - Happy Christmas (War Is Over)
13. The Ramones - Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight)
14. The Pretenders - 2000 Miles
15. Sting - Gabriel's Message
16. U2 - Peace on Earth

I also listen to the Nutracker and The Messiah this time of year.

Those songs are great.

I found a Guster song

"Donde Esta Santa Claus?"

Some of my favorites, other than the Charlie Brown one:

Ella Fitzgerald's Christmas album
"What Are You Doing New Year's Eve" - Harry Connick Jr
"What Child Is This" - Vanessa Williams
"Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" - U2 (duh)
"Riu Riu Chiu" - The Monkees
"Father Christmas" - Greg Lake (possibly the most depressing Christmas song ever ... I love it!)
"All I Want For Christmas Is You" - Mariah Carey (don't laugh)

anything by The King's Singers. Their song "The Gift" makes me cry in its simplicity and beauty.

The new Sufjan Stevens box set of Christmas EP's will probably get a number of spins this holiday season by me, as will Low's Christmas EP.

Stars' cover of 'Fairytale of New York' is rather nice

I found myself oddly humming and mumbling "Do They Know It's Christmas" the other day.
