I've never found a satisfactory answer for this question, but I'm goin to keep asking: why is it (supposedly) grammatically correct to use "an" before words that start with H? The H is pronounced, so it's not like it's a pseudo-vowel or anything.

"An historic" .... that's always really bugged me.

That always irked me too. I've still not found an acceptable answer - probably because there isn't one I'd agree with. "a" historic makes you sound like a Neanderthal, "an" historic makes you sound like, I dunno...a douche. That's probably why I always "fucking" before all words starting with H preceded by an indefinite article. Less thinking that way, eg: "This is a fucking historic event".

There were some funny suggestions earlier in the thread but I can't remember what they were. Wasn't there something about praying for Bono's pants?

Yes! Oh man, what was that joke ... wasn't it LMP who suggested it?

Edit: It was pfan:

Shuttlecock XXV: Praying for Bono's Ball Circulation

Pretty sure 18 was the only thing she owned of theirs.
