Given your tendency to linger for ages after you say you're going, I knew you weren't about to leave the blue crack for the night.

We watched Inspector Rex in German class all the time. Great fun. Definitely easier to understand than some other stuff we watched.

Did you ever see The Simpsons dubbed into German? Homer's German voice is hilarious.

Was German the compulsory second language at your schools? I can't remember.

I learned some German from my dad, and that's it.

i still truly believe that learning a second language as demanded at primary and high school is a load of complete shit as most of us cannot speak english properly . myself included.

Is it like that German fake Homer they send to Marge when Homer gets kidnapped to that Island of People Who Know Too Much?

German wasn't the compulsory second language at my school, we did Indonesian... I took a couple of years of German at university, for some reason. Seemed like a good idea at the time...

No one taught us grammar properly until we had to learn German grammar. The teacher said something about conjugating verbs, and one and all, we all stared at her blankly.
"Conju-what?!" ... it wasn't in the German dictionary...

That's all fine and well, Jen - but keep in mind that if you ever go to mainland Europe, you'll be considered pretty simple if you can't speak more than one language.

I need to brush up on the stuff!

My high school offered both German and Japanese. In grade eight, we had to do a term of each, then in the second semester we had to pick one of the two to do for the rest of the year. Beyond that point, they were both electives. I did German right through to the end, but I can't say I ever gained much in the way of skill. Somehow I was second in my class ...

I had a similar experience. I even borrowed a couple of grammar textbooks from my teacher simply because what I'd been taught of English had been so woefully lacking and I wanted to do something about it.

Most of the class just stumbled through it with half a clue.

Apparently the year a couple below us was SHOCKING. My German teacher had to teach them about nouns and verbs ...

Rather similar, actually, if I remember correctly!

And Bart just sounded dumb. I think he had a rather high-pitched voice. Milhouse's was too deep.
