time to research some new zealand history

i've always wondered about new zealand
why is it called 'new' zealand, for instance.

anyway, i've found out that the original maori name for nz is Aotearoa, which means land of the long white cloud. it's made up of four islands (north, south, chatham and stewart). capital wellington. nz was originally part of nsw in australia but became a sepearte colony in 1840. in 1907 it became a dominion of great britain.

ah. here it is. the 'old' zealand is actually a dutch city called 'zealand'.
