Made neary 20 years ago, this gritty story of young men surviving in a borstal which is run on violence and brutality rather than reason, has lost none of its power and it still hits hard.

Some of the people arent the greatest actors in the world, but those scenes are few and far between. Ray Winstone does a fine job as the 1 man who is prepared to fight against the system.

The most shocking moment would be the Greenhouse scene, which for the time, was daringly filmed. The actor playing the victim made you feel so sorry for him and the following scenes of him alone are hard to watch too.

The sudden ending of the film and with no music playing over the credits, keeps everything that has happened fresh in the mind of the viewer.

Excellent film, brutal and terrifyingly 'real'.

Great film, I saw it on TV not too long ago, the greenhouse scene you mentioned I found really hard to watch, it left me feeling rather uneasy, the film as a whole though has some great pathos, Ray was the "Daddy" indeed............
