I am wondering if anyone who frequents this site and page is a Rory Gallagher fan? I don't own any of his recordings, but I remember listening to his records at friend's places when I was a teenager...20/20 vision is the song that seems to stick in my memory...so I don't know much about his body of work.

The woman who I consider to be the finest human being I have ever met will be 40 the weekend after next. She is so deserving of being given THE best celebration. I'm now "in charge of being in charge of her birthday gathering".I recall her little voice that night 16th August, I asked the singer/guitarist to play All I Want is You and he turned it into a medley with Love Me Tender:heart:  I was basking in the delight of that and she said"maybe next time ,ask if he knows a Rory Gallagher song, that would be nice" .

So I want to make her something "Rory Gallagherish" as part of her day. I have to try and talk to her husband in private(that will be tricky)I think she has Rory's albums on record, but not CD. I hope to dub the episode of From A Whisper to a Scream that he appeared in.

I don't have that much time to do web searches and such, so I suppose I am asking if anyone has any Rory pics handy on file or any opinions on what are his best songs....maybe I can d/l and burn her a "best of" CD...I would dearly appreciate the assistance.

Thanks musiclovers
:)

Actually, I've been looking for the BBC sessions Rory Gallagher cd myself. A U2 fan let me listen to his, and that's what got me interested.

I'm sorry, I'm sorry....just practicing..I don't think he even recalls the incident

hmmm, bit hard to find eh?
Actually, i think I know someone who would know....the owner of our best local music store is Irish, he specialises in unusual recordings. It may be time for me to go apologise, of all things I got annoyed at him over not pre-ordering my copy of the AtYCLB CD and had a little "hissy fit" at him and haven't been in his store since then. Fool!!
If anyone knows about Irish musicians it would be him or his son donal.
I hope this works!!!
I think I needed more time on this one.

Allow me to date myself once again and say that the first concert I ever attended was the Doobie Brothers :silent: with Rory Gallagher opening. That is the only thing I can contribute to a Rory Gallagher thread, I'm afraid!

LOL. Good luck apologizing. Hope it works! :)

well thanks..today is THE day..if I can drag myself away from here and get my ass to

town on time.....for once.
Silly ything eh? but it was ATYCLB and I had paid fro it weeks in advance. He just couldn't understand my angst...any-way

I have just been looking through the "From a Whisper to a Scream" documentary, trying to decide which are the best bits to dub for her..RORY:heart: As it turns out the whole damn thing is excellent, I couldn't fast forward through any of it.
The birthday girl's mother emigrated from Ireland, so i think she will also love the social history of that period it shows. So the project is coming along.
I'll have the pleasure later of searching for THE Rory Gallagher photo to print on the cover for her. I haven't given up on finding a CD for her.
So if anyone wanders in here and hasn't seen it yet, check out this documentary series....

falling asunder
down under:up:

just in case you come back here dizzy

Oh it did. it did help....
I ended up behind the counter , looking at all the wonderful information they could find about Rory's recordings.

He asked.."how good a friend is this friend?"
VERY...but that doesn't change my bank balance

The BBC recordings are available as an import to Australia through Buddha records. He said last CD he got from Buddha cost $58...that's Australian!!!
So he has ordered me a Rory Best of...they usually stock it but were sold out.....$9.95, what a bargain.

I refrained from mentioning U2 today...that will come later...one step at a time
Thanks for the push.

PS: I listened to sooooooooo many records back then. I think 20/20 Vision may be a Richie Blackmore song....or Jeff Beck....or:confused: as of today I have an excuse...it's the medication:lmao:

For prosterity..a wise man once said

In case a rrory fan wanders through and you happened not to have seen the series,
Quotes from Bono and Edge about Rory.
"Taste were astonishing. Rory Gallagher was obviously a gifted and talented performer" Bono
"Guess I was about 14, got a bunch of records from a mate. One of them was a Taste album. I remember one of the tracks on it was called" Blister On the Moon". I just loved it, I played it all the time." Edge
"..everytime he touched a chord he disappeared to a place where an artist should be." Pat McCabe

I haven't heard "Blister on the Moon"........YET!
