Rogue Wave

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I've read about them, and wondered what they were llike. I'm sure you can get some of their tunes on the Sub Pop site, I'll let you know what's there.

Insound had this about their album:

Mark our words, Rogue Wave are the new Shins. This quartet effuses vitality, all the while infusing their damaged melodies with casual charm.

Needless to day, that first sentence caught my eye

I like what I've heard so far

I read about the song 'Be Kind + Remind' on that Pitchfork mix tape thing and downloaded it. I like it way too much. Going to have to get this album.

Curse you Sub Pop records, you've done it again.

Finally found this album yesterday and picked it up. I listened to it today on my way to work for the first time, I was VERY impressed.

It's odd, I do think they're extremely like The Shins, but I dont find them derivative or think they're 'wannabe's' at all. Very solid album, some really enjoyable songs too. I recommend it.

Cant wait to listen to it more.

Ok, since the last 4 posts have been all me, I realize no one cares. Please let me feed my music-wishes and post about this though:

Rogue Wave released an iPod exclusive EP in which they do 5 new versions of songs from their album, and have a cover of none other than 'Seconds' by U2!!!!! It's quite cool and worth checking out.

Whatever EP, AKA Captain Download.

It's under 6 bucks, give it a shot. Honestly, I think the artist gets more royalties from iTunes exclusives than releasing it on disc. Sad, but true.

Dont get me started on this one my so called friend.
ITunes exclusives screw the little guy, the independant record store owners everywhere. The ones that are promoting and selling the good shit. The stuff we talk about here, not the (insert big audio chain store here) of the world, who would rather paste huge Eminem and Britney photos all over thier walls.
So, its exclusive eh? Sure, the artist and ITunes do alright, but the indie stroes get bent over....

Never thought of it from that angle, my former CD shop workin' homie.

I guess for me, I never think or worry about CD stores because the nearest cool local shop is about 45 mins away, and they still rarely have what I'm looking for. I've always personally cared more about the artist and the label getting the cash. (yes, I said label. If they're actually employing an artist I like, they deserve to get support). I like the jist of your ideas though, E to the P.

Regardless, I'm doubting Rogue Wave would have reeleased that EP if iTunes didnt exist.

Cheers mate, didnt mean to get so far of the Rouge Wave subject either, just want to see indie stores around, they promote and sell the stuff I like best.

i trust they're good.

i won't download though, cause that'd take 5 hours from here.

the joys of country feedba - err, life.

I got an email from Sub Pop this evening, and it stated this:

Our other super hot offering is 10:1, a collection of four brand
spanking new Rogue Wave songs, one of which, coincidentally also titled
“10:1,” will also be featured on their new album Descended Like Vultures. If
our marketing instincts are correct this little EP of sweet jams will
whip you into an even more frenzied level of anticipation for their
upcoming full length, which I should mention will be coming at you on
October 25th with all the pomp and circumstance befitting its arrival.
Meanwhile I should mention that 10:1 is the first batch of new songs from
Rogue Wave since their debut album, Out of the Shadow which was released
in July 2004. Rogue Wave have nonetheless been busy touring the land
with the likes of The Shins, AC Newman, and The Helio Sequence and they
are about to hit the road again with label mates Fruit Bats and the
aforementioned Mssr. Chad VanGaalen as all three musical acts make their
way out to the CMJ Music Festival in New York City. Be sure to pick up
this Rogue Wave teaser and catch them live in your town.

The Sept. 17 show sounds enticing...wonder if it is a "industry" exclusive...or if you can get tickets as a regular joe.

Speaking of...is Elvis Presley now a "industry insider" who gets tickets to things like this? :hmm:

I do not have an iPod or even KNOW what iTunes is (electronically clueless).

It is interesting how I hear about new bands these days: my Interference friends (Popmofo, Zoomerang96, Cujo, EP, barlowdog and Basstrap). If they listen to it...I tend to trust it (after listening to a download).

Thank you all!

i must say i definitely agree with shins comparisons, and that's a very good thing.

salesman for a day is a really good tune.

'Out of the shadow' is better than 'Descended like vultures'? or it's just me?

It's just you. Actually, I only gave 'Out of the Shadows' a cursory listen, but I really like 'Descended Like Vultures.'

I would never envision the Shins comparison, but I like "Vultures" a lot.

I'd love to be able to see the show with the New Pornos on New Years Eve. Both bands are solid live, although their styles are fairly divergent. FWIW, Rogue Wave did a killer, original take on REM's Catapult a couple of weeks ago when they played here.
