Rivers Cuomo

I was just reading an article about Rivers on CNN.com and a little blurb at the bottom said he was on his last semester at Harvard. Maybe Bono will give the speech at his graduation.

He took forever to finish graduating............and all three of the last albums have been disappointing.......

Rivers really was the new Elvis Costello. Two years of great music, then lots of rubbish.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Weezer lead singer Rivers Cuomo is continuing his celibacy past his self-declared deadline.

The 35-year-old frontman earlier vowed to remain celibate for two years. Although that deadline expired six months ago, Cuomo still doesn't expect to jump back in the sack anytime soon.

"It's been two-and-a-half years now, actually," Cuomo tells Blender magazine in its new issue, on newsstands Tuesday. "The vow is over, but I wanted to keep cruising."

Though he's a lead singer for a popular rock band, the bespectacled Cuomo says it's not difficult to manage restraint.

"Abstinence doesn't require as much self-discipline anymore," he says. "We never had any serious groupies, anyway. Our generation got screwed."

Cuomo's vow makes Weezer's 2005 music video for "Beverly Hills" somewhat unusual; it was filmed at the Playboy mansion with dozens of Playboy models and Weezer fans.

Earlier this year, Weezer released their fifth album, "Make Believe."

Cuomo is also pursuing a degree in English literature from Harvard University, for which he has one semester left.

Eh I still like them. I think it's the general quirky sound of his voice that does it to me. I could break him of his celibacy.

Ha - well if you do, make sure not to piss him off or try to change him - he's not known for being a nice or normal person at all. The Rolling Stone story about him was scary.

I'm sure his not-niceness has nothing whatsoever to do with his vow of celibacy.

What's the definition of normal anyway? I don't think it's remotely possible to be normal and a musician for one.

And, yeah, I'm sure celibacy has made him nicer.

Have you read that Rolling Stone article?
http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/.../story/7249178

That's an excerpt. It was a very sad article b/c it basically says that Rivers is a moody freak with a serious attitude problem and that no one in Weezer likes each other anymore. Rivers is legendary in the industry for his behaviour.

Unfortunately the excerpt cut out the weirdest parts. He's an intense dude. I'm not judging tho - was just warning you in case you meant him and.. you know

Haha, well, I'm a lot of talk. I probably wouldn't even recognize him if I saw him on the street. (Plus I like my bf better teehee)

I think Rivers is refreshingly normal. Celebrities are all normal people; the only difference is that he makes no pretense about this, he simply is himself. Other celebs put on big dog and pony shows, buy huge mansions, get bodyguards posted outside everywhere, travel in limos with huge escorts and entrourages, etc... but for what? They're just normal people. Without stylists, makeup artists, writers, publicists, drivers, chefs, etc they'd all be Joe Normal living like you or me. Celebrity is horseshit, really. It sickens me that we idolize celebs, place them on a pedestal, and try to change ourselves into what they are - when what they are is a cheap, fabricated, empty image. Noone is perfect, and the people who seem to be are lying - pure and simple.

Who cares if Rivers is a little moody, indecisive, etc? Nobody goes around and nitpicks your habits and your life, or your behaviours. If you leave the cap off your toothpaste, noone is going to go batshit and decry you like some sort of a freak -- so if youre a celeb and don't fit the everything-in-its-place faux-perfection celebrity model, why would they decry you as a freak for that? That seems silly and pointless to me. So what if he didn't want to make time for Rolling Stone to do that interview, or a plethora of other things - just because he doesn't buy into the celebrity schtick there's something wrong with him? I don't buy it. Cobain hated that shit too, and he's been practically deified by the music-listening public - so what does that say? I think I'd be pretty safe in suggesting that it doesn't mean that Rivers is more of a freak than Cobain, cause Cobain was fucked up at times and not in harmless innocent ways like Rivers.

Personally, I wouldn't volunteer to spill my guts to a public who would twist my balls and say my life is a shambles if the doormat to my house was crooked, or (heaven forbid) spit on me if I had hobbies that didn't involve yachting, polo, and spending money on expensive girls to escort me around town and make me look important.
