He was an asshole. He was probably an asshole when they met (arrogant, not charming).

And, he's fat.

I'm sorry, but I don't care how smart, successful, well spoken he was--I personally could not even kiss him. He was repulsive to me in that character.

LOVE the actor, though.

I've met Marisa in person, about 2 years ago. She is every bit as hot as she was in that movie though not as skinny. I'm sure she's all over the HGH injections like everyone else in Hollywood. She didn't look like she'd had work, just HGH. She may have been cheating on him in the movie, but she had a heart.

I liked the movie, too.

I guess that opening scene really upset you

it has been awhile since I saw the movie

and all I remember in the scene is Marisa!!! (I think I may have substituted someone else for hoffman, my mind does that sometimes)

anyways, in real life sometimes "hot" women are with average looking guys that offer other things

I'd say Dennis Kucinich wife is much hotter than him.

however it seems "hot" guys rarely end up with not hot women

The scene did not "upset" me. I personally just couldn't be with a guy like that. Can't go there.

but movies are made to make money

and anyone in that industry or in advertising will tell you that young males drive the market

even the sitcoms on TV have a lot of average or even losers with hot women

I am a average guy
I have had a few semi hot girlfriends

I am also reasonably successful and have some net worth

I like to think I am charming and good looking

at least, I can work on the charm
You're right about young males driving the market, but the fact of the matter is that I, as a young male, wasn't trying to engage in some fantasy of hooking up with a woman like Katherine Heigl because I saw Knocked Up. Maybe I'm missing the point, but I went to see a funny movie with some heart. Even if it's college or frat humor, it certainly doesn't degrade women or glorify stoner culture like other comedies today. Rogen's character has to go through change to make himself worthy of Heigl's character, giving up his shit lifestyle to eventually become a responsible and loving parent.

Blame The Flintstones for perpetuating the "hot wife, shlubby guy" stereotype if anyone wants to point fingers at anything. Damn cartoons...

And I can't believe I mixed up "their" and "they're" in my original post.

what a stupid movie, every teenage, slacker's wet dream
I agree. I love how Apatow's wife is cast as the older sister, too old and ugly to get into the nightclub.

Okay, that sort of works for me, too.

I think Apatow is proof that a witty, shlubby guy can still reel in a hot woman. And it's not like he was raking in the dough when he got together with Leslie Mann. I'm sure she could have just married some shitbag producer if she wanted to.

Oh come on, she's very attractive--maybe not your type but she's certainly not ugly!

Are we arguing about Knocked Up in here? Fantastic movie. It's amazing how much heart it has for such an unflinchingly crude film.

Wait...did someone say "realism"?

Apatow is closer to my example:
with that character because he appeared successful, good job, educated, well spoken, perhaps even charming when they met.

than like the guy in Knocked Up : a loser that sits at home, smokes pot and watches porn and calls it a job.
