Rocky Balboa - 4/10

I've never seen the last 19 Rocky movies, but zzzzzzzzzzzzz

I was originally going to rate it a 2 but it gains 2 points for unintentionally hilarious scenes, stale acting that was so bad it's good, cheesy dialogue, and Milo Ventimiglia

The best part was the training montage.

The original Rocky is one of the greatest sports movies of all-time, a classic in every sense of the word.

Rocky II is overkill until the last 30 minutes, which are awesome.

Rocky III has Mr. T and the best manhug of all-time (Rocky and Apollo / Carl Weathers)

Rocky IV is 20x funnier than anything in Rock Balboa.

Rocky V is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, pure and simple.

Bee, you gotta see Rocky, III, and IV.

Reign Over Me

I'm usually a sap for these kind of movies, but I surprisingly didn't cry in this one. It was nonetheless very, very, very good.
I really recommend it to everyone. Sandler does a fantastic job in this, much better than anything else I've ever seen him in.

9/10

^ Everything Pla says

This is a movie with a lot of heart, and it's filled with little offbeat moments that are truly endearing...definitely 9/10. Pearl Jam's cover of "Love, Reign o'er Me" during the end credits is icing on the cake.

I now desperately want a motorized scooter

I saw "The Last King of Scotland". It was good, but not great. The first half wasn't as enjoyable as the last half.

7.5/10

Watched the Casino Royale DVD last night, excellent, cheered me up after watching that steaming pile of SH*TE that passes for the england football team!

9/10

The Hills Have Eyes II

1/10

Mmmm gore. Absolutely rubbish movie. I never saw the first one, so I wasn't prepared for how achingly dull and terrible it was going to be. My sister and spent the whole time laughing at how ridiculous it was. And cringing at the gore. I thought Saw III was bad. This has to be the goriest movie I have EVER seen. The only good thing about it (and the only reason why I didn't give it 0/10) was the humorous drill sergeant.

Edit: Oh, and for anyone else who had the misfortune to sit through this movie, what happened to the 'good' freak? Did he get blown up or what?

5/10.

I don't even have words. It was hilarious. It was the equivalent of a guy's chick flick. We had a great time watching it.

The Namesake

7/10? Maybe? I think I'll have to dwell on it a bit more before rating.

I loved the book and was excited to see the movie. It was good, some parts very good, but it seemed very long and slow. From what I remember, it was faithful to the book. I was really impressed with Kal Penn, and Tabu, the Indian actress who played Ashima.

I saw Namesake, also

I give it

7.5/10

I like films that give viewers an opportunity to experience something outside of the ususal story lines

there are no action sceens, big plot twist or typical things like that

It is a good story about family, cultures, and some great shots of India

Just saw 300 and well loved it, yeah us young guys will probably enjoy it most, it was pure eyecandy, a comic book come to life....If anyone goes to it planning on taking it seriously, I would worry about them, pure stylised fantastical fest of flesh and blood in all its glorious homoeroticism.

A pure adrenaline rush of a film....

9/10....mark off for script but the film really didn't need one....

Considering buffing up to be a Spartan for this Halloween:wink:

I watched This Film Is Not Yet Rated last night, which I highly recommend. I especially liked the tone of the movie and the way it highlighted the ridiculousness of the MPAA's secrecy about their ratings board. The movie made me crack up, but it's also kept me thinking all day. I also liked the way it sheds light on so many inconsistencies in the way films are rated.

I would've liked to have seen a few more filmmakers interviewed, especially a few more women, but as Kirby Dick alludes to in the interview (watch the bonus features, by the way; the delted scenes and interview are all interesting), many filmmakers wouldn't talk to him on camera for fear of a backlash when they submit their next movie to the MPAA.

I give it an 8.5/10

I'm going to see Zodiac later this week, and I'm hoping The Namesake actually comes out somewhere around here, though I'm a little skeptical.

Flags of Our Fathers

7/10

Good movie, however after seeing "Saving Private Ryan", there is no other better war movie in the past 10 years.
Ryan Phillippe's performance on "Flags" was weak. No emotion whatsoever.
I also saw the other Clint Eastwood movie "Letters from Iwo Jima"
7/10

A Scanner Darkly- 7.5/10
Interesting & nifty concept, good performances, captivating dialogue, story had both funny & sad elements . It was not great but still managed to be good all around.

Harsh Times - 5/10
Christian Bale as an ex-soldier in south LA even speaking spanish from time to time and being a very gritty character as he drifts around the streets in violent escapades. I'm still trying to digest that, his performance was good, no doubt but the movie had nothing much going for it otherwise. It seemed rather pointless and stale and the kind of movie that's been done 100 times over.

saving private ryan?:tsk:

it's all about "the thin red line"

I liked The Illusionist a lot, but preferred The Prestige. Now THAT had an "OH SHIT, SON" moment.

What???!!!

I loathe that movie!
I actually heard people screaming at the screen when I saw it at the movie theater.

you lost me there Jaz.

:)

I very much enjoyed Broken Flowers. Bill Murray is excellent in a very understated role, and the ending is creative, avoiding cliches. There is a great deal of strong commentary on aging and family, and also some genuinely funny moments. By the end, I really sympathized with Murray's character.

8/10

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

I was so excited to finally see this because I had heard about how amazing it was, yadda yadda, the usual. I get to watching, and it really is a future comedy classic. The sight gags are great, it has so many quotables, not just from Borat, but the idiots he interviews (especially during the Rodeo scene). After I finished, I sat there digesting what I had been watching for the past hour and a half and was unsure of what to think. Then my buddy and I were rattling off one-liners and scenes from the movie and that's when I knew it was genius. My only gripes were that some jokes wore thin after a while (about 700 Jew jokes?) and the naked fight was the most uncomfortable scene I have watched since The Gimp violated Butch and Marcellus in Pulp Fiction. After repeated viewings, this rating will probably rise.

8/10

Added bonus - I now have a term for anyone who awkwardly hits on/flirts with girls or is just a creep altogether: an Urkin!

Little miss sunshine.

7/10

Wacky family goes and enters the beaty contest. Funny jokes (A. Arkin is great as the druggy Grandpa), even if a tad too Hollywood-ish towards the end (the silent speaking, the family dance in the end, the making-up between them). Highlight of the movie is Olive's dance in the end.

My son is a horror movie buff and recently borrowed Suspiria from a friend of his. It's an Italian movie by Dario Argento from the 70's . The story is about a girl who enrolls in a ballet academy that's run by a coven of witches. Overall the movie has kind of a creepy, unsettling feeling but isn't particularly scary. However, the opening scene is about the most disturbing thing I have ever watched. Anyone who's seen it knows exactly what I'm talking about. I was bothered by it for days afterward.

Overall 6/10

I watched a real stinker of a movie last night. It was called Trixie and starred Emily Watson as a bumbling private detective. It was one of those movies that from the cast you'd think it couldn't possibly bad, but even Dermot Mulrooney, Nathan Lane, Brittany Murphy, and Nick Nolte couldn't save it. It tried to be funny and serious and mysterious all at once, and it was really dumb. I watched the last 45 minutes or so of it on fast forward.

There were a few mildly funny parts. I'll give it 2.5/10, but I think most of that is just because I'll watch most anything that includes Nick Nolte.

Fast Food Nation - 1/2 good movie, 1/2 pretentious writing that was basically trying to beat you over the head with the message they just told you in the first half of the film. It was almost like they had two different writers and directors for the movie.

Read the book instead. Much more informative, entertaining, and not at all talks down to you.

Just came home from the cinema after seeing Reign Over Me this evening. What a beautiful movie .. heart warming and heart breaking at the same time. Just wish I (or my friend) bought some kleenex along

Children of Men 4/10

I couldn't wait for this movie to end. The only reason I gave it a 4 is because I really enjoy watching Clive Owen, but thats about it.
