I saw The Departed yesterday and really liked it. 8/10 though as a Boston girl I have to say the accents were appalling, except for Mark Whalberg and Matt Damon, of course, being local boys and all!

I really like the director

Amores perros

and 21 Grams

were much better than Babel

but it is still good and people in the theater actually applauded when it was over.

I just saw Amores Perros last night! I liked it. I didn't realize it was the same director.

Running with Scissors

9/10

I loved this movie almost as much as I loved Little Miss Sunshine. If you liked LMS, you'll love this. It's a little bit darker, but the comedy is

Joseph Fiennes.......pornstache...

I've heard "The Illusionist" is actually a better movie about magicians, but since I haven't seen that one yet, I can't comment.

But I would highly recommend "The Prestige".
The Illusionist is a better love story.

The Prestige is a better magician story, plus it has David Bowie and Scarlett Johannson and her boobies.

Santa Claus 3- 8/10

Falling into the trap of these holiday movies Was very good though and Tim Allen once again did a great job. Had a lot more to this movie then just the cuteness factor. Not to mention that Martin Short was hilarious as Jack Frost

Next holiday movie to see "Deck The Halls" with Matthew Broderick

I've seen a lot of movies over the past fortnight

Marie Antoinette

8/10

I wasn't going to go see it because I haven't heard good things about it but really enjoyed it.

Borat

9/10

French movie about the resistance called "Army in the shadows" about resistance/collaboration for educational purposes. 5/10

A Good Year

Predictable and cheesy but good tale nonetheless

6/10

Saw "Marie Antoinette" Friday night. I liked it and thought it was both thought provoking and entertaining. It's not as good as "Lost In Translation", but it's not bad either.

Actually, I thought it dealt with a lot of the same themes as "Lost In Translation": boredom, isolation, purpose in life, feeling trapped.

I told my friend that Sophia Coppola is so good at visually capturing boredom and isolation. And my friend said, "Yeah. But the only problem is, when she's capturing boredom and isolation, I feel bored."

To each his own.

I liked it. (Especially the use of The Cure's "Plainsong" and New Order's "Ceremony"--two of my favorite songs from those artists.)

Kill Bill: Volume 1

4.5/5

I saw it for the first time last weekend. Holy bloodbath, batman! I really wasn't prepared to see human beings running around and spraying their innards like garden hoses. It's extremely violent, and not for children or small pets.

But, once you get past that small detail, the theme of vengeance and redemption is strangely powerful and gripping.

I did a course called Vichy France on Film at Nottingham, but I don't think I saw that one. Have you seen Un héros très discret ?

The Queen.

I'd give it 8/10 and most of that is for Helen Mirren

She's a fantastic actress and is stunning in this film! You can really believe she is the Queen and also the guys who plays Tony Blair&Prince Charles are pretty good too

It was sad for me to watch, listening to them being so blase about Diana, esp Prince Phillip who if he did have that attitude then the swine

Watching it brought it all back, that awful week in 1997

Office Space
7/10

Don't get me wrong, the movie WAS funny just was watn' as funny to me as it was to EVERYONE else, and there were some plot holes and stuff....regardless it was good.

and FINALLY I've now caught 1,000s of jokes people have told me over the years, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, I now understnad what was so funny/important about TPS changing his screen name to TPSReports

the departed 9.5/10

scorsese

dicaprio needs to stop appearing in movies where his character is supposed to have some distinct sort of accent, though.

and i could have done with more a variety of music (dropkick murphys song twice, "gimme shelter" twice as well as "let it loose").

but that was an excellent movie.
