The Departed- seven and a half out of ten.
Rubbish beginning, amazing, brilliant, genius middle and a weak, lazy, defies-all-logic ending. After the ending, which frankly just served to tie up any loose endings in the easiest way possible, I saw it was directed by Martin Scorsese and was like, "Ah, so
that explains the gratuitous violence of the ending then!"
I mean, like I say, I wouldn't have minded so much if I didn't get the feeling that it just ended that way to tie up all loose ends without any effort whatsoever while still surprising the audience.
However the middle part of the film was superb, and it did give you a lot to debate about after the film (like was that guy who got shot after the roof incident
actually an undercover cop or not?). Plus Ray Winstone's attempt at an American accent brought a nice touch of comic relief (why not let him do his Cockney accent though? I mean there was a Glaswegian there, whose accent I actually understood
, so why not a Londoner?
