Well, in my alternate ending, I reworked a lot of the story line carried over from the first 2. It became the story of a girl and her mammy, living in the deep south during the war...

Ok, I still have not read any of the books, nor seen any of the movies. I just wanted to reply.

Damnit, I just want to reply!

was it like the first movie with one big battle followed by incredibly long walking sequence followed by yet another battle, repeat ad nauseum?

nevermind.

*leaves thread*

it does look nice with three replies though.

I'm going to see it tonight. Although I'm not a big LOTR fan - in fact I only saw the second one last week - and I only watched it cos I figured I ought to, otherwise I wouldn't understand ROTK

But I'm looking forward to it. I liked the first 2 well enough

We have tickets to see it on friday night. I just saw the second one this weekend. I must say, I was really reluctant to see them b/c The Hobbit is one of two books I started but never finished. I did like the second one way better than the first one. We'll see how this one goes...

This movie is not spectacular, nor does it deserve to be called amongst the best films of all time. It is a straightforward Hollywood blockbuster film, in a similar vein to the "Star Wars" saga. There is really nothing wrong with that; "Star Wars" is certainly a memorable crowd pleaser, but it is still even to be determined as to whether these films will be remembered in 20 years like "Star Wars" or "The Godfather," or it will be yet just another polished trilogy to placate our immediate sense of instant gratification.

I tend to believe that this will turn into another "Star Trek"--a trilogy of films that are remembered and held in high esteem by a group of cult fans, while the rest shake their heads in response. Again, there is certainly nothing wrong with that.

But it will win a lot of awards. Awards ceremonies know well enough to grant lots of awards to films that make the industry a lot of money.
