Welcome to the third match of the third round of the Interference Retro Island Album Game! In this competition, instead of being stranded on a desert island and seeking the best playlist to enjoy while there, we're heading off to Retro Island to savour the best that the punk/new wave genre of the late 70's and 80's has to offer.

For every win, each player will receive three points. If there is a tie, each player gets two points. If a player loses a match but is within three votes of the winner, that player will earn a single point.

hardyharhar continues to roll through the tournament, as he blanked Screwtape in the first match by the score of 9-0.

Match 2 saw phanan earn a shutout as well, defeating namkcuR by the score of 6-0. Current standings will be displayed at the end of each round.

For our third match, bono_212 squares off against VintagePunk. Below are their playlists.

If you don't know the songs, or wish to hear how each playlist flows, feel free to check out the Desert Island website. :)

Synthtastic!

Ok so the title of the play list is a joke between a friend and I, but it is no secret that I have a sick obsession with synthesizers, and the music created with such a “fantastic!” instrument. Anyways, I tried to make my list not TOO much of a greatest hits compilations, but with the little access I have to the music I love so very much, I had to make due with what I had. It was hard to cut this list down to under 80 minutes, and even now, with an extra 2.5 minutes left, I feel like I should throw something else in, but I think it’s safer leaving it like this. This is the most excited I think I’ve been about desert island since the very beginning, so I hope my list is the best I could have done, that it flows * well, and it’s enjoyable for all those listening .

Devolution:
A Punk Retrospective
1975 - 1980

I began composing this list by jotting down a few of my favourite songs and artists of the era, and before long I noticed a definite trend - pretty much all of my choices could be encompassed within the years 1975 to 1980. Those years define the genre for me. Within those years you could find the latter phases of proto-punk, the rise of punk in its purest form, and the birth and foundation of post-punk and new wave. What I've attempted to do is to build a list that includes some of the essential artists of this period. Depending on your familiarity with the era, you may know many of these, or just a few. In selecting songs, for the most part, I tried to avoid ones that have been played so often over the years that they're almost a part of our collective pop culture consciousness. Instead, I tried to include lesser known but amazing tracks that casual listeners of or newcomers to this genre might not know as well. I hope that this collection conveys to each of you the energy and excitement of this groundbreaking period in music.

Note: The date at the end of each track indicates the original year of release.
