I think you're giving the the Orange Bowl audience way too much credit by saying they were expressing their dissatisfaction with music industry today. What really happened was that they were just having a laugh, a couple of beers, someone started booing and it seemed like it would be funny to humilliate this exposed human being just for the hell of it. A couple of high fives and beers later the game resumed and they could barely remember the half time peroformance. It was the media who turned into the huge "statement".

None of that changes the fact that she fucking blows chunks, thank you.

Which is why she should take that blowing talent and do porn.

Ashlee Simpson is clearly being targeted to a 11-18 demographic, primarily. The idea, of course, is that little teenage brats will like her and nag their parents to buy her CDs, merchandise, and concert tickets.

Melon

I have been in this age group since Brittany appeared and absolutely loath both of them. :yuck: I may be a teen, but would never nag my parents to buy me anything of theirs. Now a band with talent...

The crowd had every right to boo her. Anyone who needs to have their voices fixed that much in the studio should not be recording albums.

As for her career, she should just go back to living off her sister. She was more successful and no one hated her.

P.S. What was with the Anarchy symbol?

I would just like to make it clear that I do not like Ashlee Simpson. Yes, she is prefabricated. Yes, she can't sing live to save her life. But that still doesn't make it seem right for me that hating her nowadays has become the "in" thing to do. The songs she "helps" to write aren't bad at all so why this immense rejection?

I have seen more obvious cases of "fake musicians" and they haven't been as "lynched" as Ashlee.

you know, the more you talk the less you make sense.

i'm gonna repeat anitram's fine words and say that ashlee " blows chunks".

if you feel sorry for her, you're probably the only one. i guess that makes you a hero or something?

congrats. or something...

as for everyone used to liking her a few months ago, where'd you ever get that impression? where do you come up with this?! noone here and noone in my real life likes her. i imagine a lot of other people could say the same thing.

[q]Ashlee Simpson’s vocal malfunction
Making viewers long for the days of Janet Jackson's breast

COMMENTARY

In this case, if Ashlee Simpson had flashed a breast, the FCC probably would have let it go.

After all, agencies of the federal government are there to protect the citizenry from any sort of injury or harm. Ashlee’s performance at halftime of Tuesday night’s Orange Bowl in Miami was about as close as a singer gets to committing aggravated assault. If she had only taken a lesson from Janet Jackson, the world would be talking today about the exposure of a boob rather than a fraud.

Much of the blame for this fiasco falls upon ABC, which hired this female Gilbert Gottfried to headline the halftime show for college football’s ultimate game, matching No. 1 USC against No. 2 Oklahoma. If the Sooners are despondent today after absorbing a 55-19 bludgeoning from the Trojans, they can take solace that each and every one of them could have taken the halftime stage dressed in drag and mooed like a cow and still induce fewer boos than Ashlee did Tuesday night.

First NBC invited Ashlee on “Saturday Night Live,” where she tried to fool the audience by lip-synching her way through a song, but failed. Now ABC. Don’t these networks have a Standards and Practices office anymore? Don’t they care about the welfare of our children? Don’t these network executives realize that a performance like Ashlee’s could produce imitators? Are they unconcerned about copycat Ashlees?

Slack-jawed awe
I watched the Orange Bowl Tuesday night, like millions of other Americans. The first half was all USC. When halftime arrived, I sat at the kitchen table, watching the TV from a room away. Because of the distance, the sound seemed lower than it was if I was right there in front of the screen. I started to enjoy a fine meal. I felt safe and secure.

When Ashlee came on and began to perform, though, I literally dropped my fork. Then I cupped my hands over my ears, but it didn’t help. Ashlee’s singing sounded like a cross between a political prisoner being tortured and a test of the Emergency Broadcast System.

I desperately searched for the remote so I could hit the mute button, but I must have misplaced it. But I also couldn’t believe that someone didn’t rush the stage and stop her. The local police. The FBI. Homeland security. Even an angry mob of vigilantes. Instead, they just let her keep going. I’ve never felt so helpless or vulnerable in my life.

I happened to look out the window and noticed that some of my neighbors were running down the street, their hands over their ears, screaming for help. I wanted to help them, I really did. Yet I was gripped by horror and disbelief. I was practically catatonic. For their sake — and for mine — all I could hope for was a swift end to the halftime show.

Shrieking like a hyena giving birth, she closed her “song” with something that approximates the phrase, “you make we wanna SCREAM!” And then she waited for applause.

Instead, she got boos, the kind of irate and vindictive boos that usually occur after a pro wrestler taunts a crowd. Through the cacophony, the gentle strains of “You suck!” could be heard. Ashlee was escorted off the stage and through a tunnel, and let’s just say the Indiana Pacers were received more warmly by Detroit fans when they walked toward the locker room after the brawl.

Just go away now
I consider myself a tolerant person. I accept the talented and talentless equally. I realize not everyone can sing like Sinatra or Streisand. Usually, I applaud the effort, even if the result is unsatisfactory. On the handful of occasions when I have been at a karaoke bar, I clap my hands supportively for each and every participant, regardless of how pitiful their attempts. That’s just the kind of guy I am.

But I believe there are limits, and Ashlee has crossed mine, and I believe, the world’s. She is using her status as the sister of Jessica Simpson in order to carve out a career for herself. How anyone can listen to Jessica, let alone Ashlee, borders on the stupefying. But I see stories on the news all the time about con artists who separate people from their life savings. I know there were scads of gullible viewers who tuned in to watch Geraldo Rivera open Al Capone’s vault. I realize that humans are flawed, and sometimes those flaws can have disastrous consequences.

What I hope and pray for now is that Ashlee will go away and leave the public alone. On behalf of the world community, I implore her to pursue another career. There are many avenues for a young woman of her abilities. Pig farmers need wranglers. The U.S. Forest Service has many outposts in remote areas of our nation’s parks, where one can make all the noise one wants and not be heard by another soul for miles. And if she’s determined to remain in the entertainment field, the horror genre in Hollywood could always use a good screamer.

But Ashlee must cease and desist her professional singing career immediately. The lip-synching angered many. The Orange Bowl debacle undoubtedly caused thousands to seek counseling. What does she want next? Is she setting up some sort of blackmail scheme: “Give me $10 million or I’ll keep singing”?

If that’s the case, I’m prepared to donate generously. I don’t think I’m alone.

I think a wardrobe malfunction and a middle finger to the audience would have been just what her career needed. Then she could go to re-invent her self as the "bad Simpson".

i think she is the best talent to come out of that family, cause really, it's JESSICA simpson, i cant stand.

if i was given a choice between those two, ashlee (i havent seen the performance but she's obviously not the greatest singer) would win hands down. really. listen to j. simpson's 'ANGELS' if you dont believe me. how can one butcher a song so mercilessly! she deserves lifelong solitary confinement in a cold and dank cave for that. ok maybe that was a bit of an overkill.. nevertheless!

if their dad feels like they need a popstar in the family, he should keep ashlee and retire jessica!

seriously, if ashlee could sing she'd be way better than jessica. provided she gave up her tv show. and convinced her sister to never appear on tv again.

WOoooOOOHH!

go ashlee!

hahahahaha!:lmao:

Ouch. Caustic bunch.
:slant:

I dont know her music. I think I should though? I know of her, but not her songs. Enough have said she doesn't have talent so it has to be pretty true.
I've not heard of such mass voicing of dislike at something before, when it is only music at a sports event though.

How old is she anyway?

I think you should combine the two sisters into one. The voice and the looks of Jessica and the desire to at least try and write her stuff like Ashlee.

Hell this way their two brains may just make one full one.

jessica simpson, christina aguilera, mandy moore, britney spears... they can all actually sing. the songs htey sing are op fluff, and they aren't great singers, by any streatch of the imagination... but they can all sing in tune, which is the key to this whole thing.

ashlee simpson's performance at the orange bowl was horrificly out of tune. i don't think she hit a single note. it was horrific. i've heard better singing at karaoke bars. she was forced to sing live after the whole SNL thing. most acts usually lip synch such large events such as super bowl's and national championship games. whitney houston's stunning rendition of the national anthem 10-12 years ago? pre-recorded. u2's super bowl performance? live... they're the only halftime act in the past 20 years to actually sing live. everyone else was pre-recorded. most events insist that the songs are pre-recorded, to protect against goofs, errors, accidental f-bombs and the like. but because of the SNL fiasco, ashlee was forced to sing live and in person, because her career would baisicly be over if she was caught lip synching again. so she sang live... and it was the sound of the dogs of hell. women and children shreeked in horror. as lewis black once put it... "i'd rather have stuck a spoon up my ass than listen to that, 'cause at least i'd be causing the pain myself. that's called empowerment. i learned it from oprah."

actually i think christina aguilera has a pretty strong voice...:uhoh:

but jessica simpson just makes me cringe, you can teach someone to sing, but you cant teach them to be not annoying!

thats why jessica goes and ashlee stays.

I agree with all in your list but Britney. I can't stand her voice. :yikes:

yeah, Britney can't sing for shit. Aggulera and even Jessica Simpson can.

Are you sure about Whitney Houston using a prerecorded performance? maybe she did; I don't know, I thought it was live....certainly she can sing.

name 2.

I was actually awed at how massive the booing was... It was pretty bad during Destiny Child's performance and I also thought it was low-class and lame considering I actually liked their performance but the Ashlee Simpson performance was pretty bad... however one of my favorites of the moment... Karen O... she can be pretty off too.

I've read somewhere else that it could have been an issue with her stage monitors or ear monitor (if she was using one). I also find it hard to believe her voice being that bad considering the song that I heard of hers on the radio has a decent voice.

I mean seriously... outside of telling her to quit... what would you advise her to do? I think Melon offered a pretty interesting opinion.

Most definitely Whitney's was a lipsync performance - it's quite legendary actually. Like someone said above, many mime for sporting events to make sure nothing goes wrong. Lord knows why Roseanne Barr didn't have to follow suit.

No, no, I am really serious about this. I feel that her performance wasn't really that offensive, and I am assuming that the only acceptable catalyst for booing is something being offensive to you and/or affecting you in such a way that you feel compelled to boo.

I watch the performance and she wasn't even off key. Sure, she wasn't a Grade A performer but it wasn't really that hideous. I believe that it is rude to boo someone on stage and should only be done on a need-to-do basis.

I am a performer myself, and I know that it takes a lot of work and initially guts to perform - and if you're performing in such a massive scale as she was then all the more pressure. I believe that someone who exposes themself trying to entertaing a mass of drunk college kids deserves just a tad more of respect.

Shania Twain clearly lyp-synched in one of those big performances, I believe it was the Super Bowl but I am not sure; she received an ovation. Ahslee Simoson didn't and she was booed for the hell of it. Just because it was fun. Just because a couple of beer holding guys thought it would be funny to humilliate someone. It just doesn't seem right for someone who geniunly tried.

I still believe that people hate Ashlee Simpson because it's cool to hate it and everyon else is doing it, so that makes it OK to hate her.

I was just really dissapointed with that display of today's culture ...or lack thereof. :tsk:

i think you're wrong. i know i'd boo the hell out of anyone and everyone if i thought they sucked. it's ok to express that you like a band (ie. clapping, cheering, standing ovation), but you have to sit there quietly and mind your own business, suffering through shit? i would have booed that american idol airhead, the country guy, and ashlee simpson all in one long collective boo. or maybe i'd yell "you suck" or "get off the stage" just to shake things up.

for some inexplicable reason, there are people out there who like shania twain. i've never met any of them, so i can't really explain this phenomenon.

Janet Jackson and the Back Street Boys... relatively speaking...

This is just for what it's worth...

I've seen Janet Jackson lip synch many performances, such as halftimes, the VMAs, etc. She does, however, also give live performances with full singing and dancing. Both of her HBO concert specials had her singing live while doing all of her dance moves, and these are two-hour and change concerts. She sounds just fine live, especially considering how much she's moving around while she sings. Just seems that she prefers the safety of lip synching when it's live before a national audience. I've never really seen her criticized for it, I guess because most people believe she really can sing.

I have a friend who likes Janet a lot, and so I was exposed to a lot of her music. I guess I'm biased in her direction.

If you want to hear a really bad Jackson, you should listen to her sister, LaToya, sometime...lol.
