REM rehearse new album in Dublin

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I didn't get Reveal or Around The Sun. Up is the last one I have. So it'll be interesting to see if they change their sound or stay on the adult alternative path.

 2007...what a year.

I second this

While the Post-Berry albums aren't as spectacular as the other albums by R.E.M. standards, they're still pretty great. I'm really excited for this.

Well, they certainly looked damn happy in Dublin

I'm hoping for New Adventures II.

"Living Well is the Best Revenge,"
"Staring Down the Barrel of the Middle Distance,"
"Accelerate,"
"Mr. Richards,"
"Disguised"
"Horse to Water,"
"Man Size Wreath,"
"I'm Gonna DJ."
"Until the Day is Done"
"On the Fly"
"Houston"

All song titles seem queintessentially REM.

I think they were playing "I'm Gonna DJ" on their last tour, when they were supporting Around the Sun. :hmm:

The Dublin rehearsals are floating around on dimeadozen, the torrent site. Good stuff! I've listened a few times -- not enough to know the songs real well yet, but enough to have a pretty favorable impression. I know some people are saying the new material marks a return to the quality of the '80s or early '90s.

I seem to be getting more into REM lately...especially the 90's albums:

Automatic
Monster
Up

I haven't been keeping up on my R.E.M. news. SHAME ON ME.

I had no idea. This new album came out of nowhere for me. Wowsers. Nice. Song titles kick ass. I heard I'm Gonna DJ live back in 2004...kicked butt.

Hopefully this will mark a return to form for them. Around the Sun was a pretty mediocre album, and downright awful by REM-standards.

WOO! That's all for now.

But seriously, as much REM love as I have in me...just give me a new Radiohead album. Please? This is torture by now.

The new songs are great. Definitely more uptempo and Rock sounding than Up, Reveal or Around The Sun.

I have torrents of all the shows except one.
Bono and Edge attended the first night.

They also played a ton of cool old songs at the shows that they hadn't played for years like Carnival of Sorts, Wolves Lower, 1000000, Second Guessing, Letter Never Sent, Kohoutek, West of the Fields, Harborcoat, Pretty Persuasion, Feeling Gravity's Pull, Romance, Cuyahoga, These Days, Circus Envy, and New Test Leper.

The shows were great, and what a cool idea.
If the songs don't get overproduced, it is going to be a great album. They sounded awesome live.

Here's some clips from Youtube of the new songs:
(and a couple old ones thrown in)

This better be out fall 2007 along with Radiohead to make up for U2's slow as molasses effort.

I'm really hoping for a 2007 release as well, esp. since we won't be seeing anything from U2 until 2008.

And I'll also add that from these clips it appears that the waking R.E.M. nightmare I've been living for the last 7 years appears to finally be ending. Thank the maker. O fcourse, that's what I thought when I saw them at a tiny show after the release of In Time, and I was wrong about them returning to glory that time...

hey U2inUtah, any hints on where you found those torrents? didn't see them on my usual sites.

I got them off of murmurs.com,

But I've now noticed they are all on dimeadozen.org as well now.

The July 4, 2007 show has the best sound quality

Not that I know of, but the accounts are all free, you just need an email address...unless there is some other downside I don't know about.

It took me about a minute to get a dimeadozen account.

Or I'll upload them and email them to you if you want, but they are big files since they were originally in Flac format. Like 40 MB per song.

thanks, but you don't have to go through that kind of hassle. I'll sign up to DAD, no biggie. just surprised it hasn't leaked to the bigger torrent sites yet.
