i do the rating in the immyplace-style:

Rammstein - 10
Neil Young- 9
The Beatles - 9
U2 80's - 9
U2 90's - 10
U2 00's - 4
Led Zeppelin - 8

Porcupine Tree: 10/10 - everything Steven Wilson touches turns to gold.

Agalloch: 10/10 - no-one makes better soundscapes. No-one. Agalloch are essentially The Unforgettable Fire if it were a metal album lost in a northwestern US or Canadian forest.

Dream Theater: 9/10 - the first three albums are perfect. The next few are incredible. The last couple are good but not mindblowing.

Crowded House: 9/10 - Neil Finn is the best singer ever. They'd get higher than nine if it weren't for the terrible second side of Woodface.

Orphaned Land: 9/10 - traditional Hebrew/Arabic music meets doom/death metal ... and it works! These guys are mindblowing.

And because I'm sure someone will say "where's U2?", here we go:

U2: 7/10 - 1976 through to 10 January 1990 U2 is 10/10. Passengers is 10/10. Zooropa and Pop are good. HTDAAB is mediocre. One point each deducted for the complete shitfests that are Achtung Baby and ATYCLB and the dire state of singles/b-sides since 1993 or so.

David Bowie 9/10

'76 U2... shit garage band

80's u2 ... 7/10 Good music, irritating jerkoff band

90's u2 ...10/10 Great music, irritation so bad it's good

00's u2 ... 7/10 Bono's leaning back to his 80's bullshit...only softer.

Radiohead 8/10

Pink Floyd 8/10

screw the Beatles:wink:

U2 - 8.5/10 - what can I say? My greatest musical love ever. When they're good, they're untouchable. But I'm deducting points purely for the fact that I find too many of their albums hit-and-miss and there are very few I'd want to listen to from start to finish.

PJ Harvey - 9.5 - her voice is pure raw power and it only gets better and better. IMO hasn't delivered one weak album yet and so far she's had an amazing, consistently brilliant run.

Pink Floyd - 9 - some of their albums are better than others but they have at least three absolute masterpieces to their name.

Muse - 7 - brilliant live band, still quite young and pleasingly getting better with every album (as opposed to releasing a smashing debut followed by diminishing returns).

Nick Cave & Bad Seeds - 8.5 - again, some albums are better than others. But what an awesome lyricist.

keld & hilda 10/10
bjørn & okay 10/10
vikingarna 9/10
dario campe otto 9/10
susi & leo 11/10

U2 - 10/10, sure one or two dips in form along the way, but any group with Achtung Baby, Joshua Tree, ATYCLB, & Zooropa in its back catalogue, plus the greatest ever tour in the history of the whole wide world, ZOOTV, have just got to be top dog.

David Bowie - 9.5/10, based solely on his '70's output would have been neck & neck with U2, but Scary Monsters, & TiN machine apart the'80s was a total disaster zone for Bowie, great recovery since then, sees the Thin White Duke at no.2

Morrissey/The Smiths - 9/10, I know two seperate acts, but in my world they're one & the same, plus There Is A Light...is imo the greatest track, & You Are The Quarry, & Vauxhall & I are 2 of the greatest LP's of all time.Definetely worthy of no.3 spot.

The Stone Roses - 9/10, just 2 studio albums, but what albums they were, IMO the greatest debut LP of all time, & when they finally got to releasing it the follow up wasn't too bad either, plus the influence they had then, & still do, make them a worthy no.4

No.5 they'rare far too many brilliant artists out there to restict myself to a permanent top 5, however the above 4, have always been considered by myself to be the very best, but in 5th place I'll choose, Bruce Springsteen, for now, but tomorrow it could well be, Oasis, Radiohead, Blondie, Kate Bush, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Roxy Music, The Men They Couln't Hang, The Pogues, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Who, The Rolling Stones, All of whom I'll give 8/10.

I'm using my last.fm Top 5.

U2 8.5/10 - would definitely be higher if not for the good but average last 2 albums.

The Beatles 10/10 - I can't find any fault with these guys, I just can't!

Red Hot Chili Peppers 8/10 - Great band but I'm not a fan of many of their lyrics from the early years. On the other hand, I love their mature side even though certain songs from Stadium are too mellow for their personality!

Tori Amos 9/10 - Exceptional singer/songwriter who IMO has not delivered a single bad album including The Beekeeper which I love. Venus still hasn't fully grown on me though!

Pearl Jam 9/10 - Excellent band that consistently delivers quality rock music! Would be higher if not for some weird shit like Stupid Mop and Untitled (Red Dot)

I just had a realization. Those may be the most listened-to bands/singers of the past couple of years. But my Top 5 favorite bands is more along the lines of...

U2 8.5/10 - would definitely be higher if not for the good but average last 2 albums.

The Beatles 10/10 - I can't find any fault with these guys, I just can't!

Pearl Jam 9/10 - Excellent band that consistently delivers quality rock music! Would be higher if not for some weird shit like Stupid Mop and Untitled (Red Dot)

R.E.M. 8/10 - Great long standing band with the quality of U2 but without any of the overt commercialism. So many quality albums from the mid 80s to the late 90s! But I haven't quite got into their early stuff yet or any of the post Up albums. So I'm taking away 2 points.

Radiohead 9/10 - Consistently amazing and innovative band. I greatly admire their guts for doing what they did after OK Computer and still managing to develop a loyal fan following. The only thing they're missing is I think joy and maybe a sexual touch a la U2's Mysterious Ways. Their albums are all so serious.

I feel bad for not including my favorite female singer/songwriter of all time but these are my favorite bands right here ^

I had to rack my brain for minutes on this one. Ok here it goes:

Bonnie Tyler-10/10-Everyone mentions great female artists with such power and integrity like Janis Joplin, PJ Harvey and Patti Smith. But my friends, nothing could get heavier to me than "Total Eclipse of the Heart". Throw in the video and you have modern art at its best!!

Starland Vocal Band-8/10-Definitely the song of our generation, "Afternoon Delight". Would get more points if they would have made their "Joshua Tree". Crying shame.

Chicago-9/10-Folks, we are talking about modern rocking jazz fusion here. Miles I am sure was quite jealous. Horns and Peter Cetera!!

Captain and Tennile-8.5/10-I don´t just make love, I make "Muscrat Love".

GG Allen-9/10-What I love about GG is that he brought such sensitivity to his art. I mean, really, could you imagine him singing "Angel of Harlem". I could.

Very honorable mention-Henry Rollins-This guys a singer!! Yeah, you U2 fans make me sick!! Bono can´t sing worth shit. Freddie Mercury, oh god!! AND Henry is an actor to boot. A TRUE ARTIST!!!

OK, I'll list my actual top 5 favorite bands/artists now:

1. Beatles 10/10
2. Led Zeppelin 10/10
3. U2 10/10
4. Aerosmith 9.5/10
5. Beck 9.5/10

anyone who listens more to oasis and rhcp than radiohead should have his or her behind whipped.

Oasis songs sound better than Radiohead songs

Liam Gallgher is a better singer than Thom Yorke

U2 - 10/10 you wouldn't be readin' this is they weren't 10/10
Oasis - 9.7/10
Stone Roses - 9.5/10
The Beatles - 9.5/10

Can't decide on my fifth....

At the other end of the table:

Little Birdy 0.2/10
The Vines 0.07/10
Creed 0.04/10
Scott Stapp 0.01
Alterbridge 0.00004/10

My top five are:

1. U2 9/10 - because they have a handfull of songs I really don't like at all... But all in all, all their stuff is better than any other bands on this planet.
2. Nirvana 10/10 - I like everything they managed to make during the short period they excisted.
3. Pearl Jam 9/10 - There's nothing as a "bad" PJ song except perhaps Hey, Foxymophandlemama, that's me! which freakes me out a bit. And a few other ones
4. Foo Fighters 9/10 - because... Well, One By One has it's downers.
5. The Smashing Pumpkins 8/10 - because Adore and Machina I and II aren't as good as their previous stuff. So I'm really hoping that they will return to their older roots with the new album coming out!!

1) no. and most oasis songs are just plagiates. radiohead songs are intelligent pieces of delightful music

2) none of them are great singers in any way. but i can get reeeeeaaaally tired of listening to liam and his flippancy.

1/ Oasis songs are more inspired and have a greater feel-good factor

2/ There is nothing better than Liam singing the words Shine or Rain.

their songs are not meant to make you feel good. in fact most of them are rather depressive. that terrain is their forte.

2) hmm, i can think of better things.

Oh c'mon! Oasis are not that bad! They're pretty good in fact and are much more than just Beatles fans. They have a distinct sound of their own now.
