I was wondering how many people here actually like it, or what their feelings are on it. I do like some rap, but most of the mainstream stuff is horrible.

Rap I like:

Outkast
Jurassic 5
Cee-Lo
Dungeon Family
The Streets
Beastie Boys
some Ludacris
The Roots

True hip-hop is like oxygen to me. I hate crap like ja-Rule and all that poppy shit. My fave hip hop groups/artists are:

A Tribe Called Quest (Q-Tip solo too)
De La Soul
The Roots
Mos Def
Notorious BIG
Jay-Z
Kool Keith (and all his many characters...)
Dan The Automator
Prince Paul
Beaties
J5
Dilated Peoples
Black Eyed Peas
Wu Tang Clan
2Pac
Black Sheep
Del The Funky Homosapien
Digable Planets
DJ Shadow
El-P
Common
Talib Kweli
Wyclef Jean
Bahamadia
EPMD/Erik Sermon
Fugees
NWA/All solo stuff by Dre,Cube Easy etc...
Eminem
Outkast
Souls Of Mischief

There are so many more, this was all I could think of right now.

I love the beasties, but don't listen to them much at all, it's almost like they are too cool for me....

I listen to rap a lot, and I've listened to it for a long time. In fact, today I listened to a cassette tape of 3rd Bass in my car. I laughed when I heard "Straight from '88 to the curves of the 90s."

I like rap in all it's forms, but I could do without some of the bling bling rappers. I like and/or own stuff by the following:

De La Soul
Jay-Z
3rd Bass :D
Snoop Dogg (my favorite!)
Bubba Sparxxx (current second favorite!)
Queen Latifah
NWA, Dre, Ice Cube, etc.
Digable Planets
Eve
Eminem
Stetsasonic
2 Live Crew
Jurassic 5
Juvenile and all the Hot Boyz
DMX
Lil Kim
Ice T
All old school rap--the list would go on forever!

Anyway, love that rap music.

Outkast was the first rap group I got into
My favourite right now is Blackalicious.
Other crews I dig: Jurassic 5, Quannum, Handsome Boy Modelling School, The Roots, Aim, Dilated Peoples, and swollen members are pretty decent too or they at least put on a mad wicked live show.

Blackalicious
Common
Mos Def
J5
Digable Planets
Black eyed peas
dilated peoples
biz markie
de la soul
tribe called quest

The Biz! What ever happened to A Tribe Called Quest... maybe I haven't been paying attention, but I don't think I've heard from them for about five years...

Tricky is indeed a smooth rapper.

Here's a few others that I love.

Cypress Hill (a staple of my bus rides to school in junior high)
Total Devastation
EPMD
Eric B. And Rakim ("The Ghetto" is a great song)
Too Short (the master of stringing expletives together!)
Boogie Down Productions/KRS-One
Digital Underground
MC Lyte
Outkast
Youngbloodz
Black Sheep
Bone Thugs-n-Harmony
Notorious B.I.G.
The Lox

And although I don't like most of Tupac's music, "How Do You Want It" just can't be topped. My sister and I used to joke that when she got married, she would walk down the aisle to it, and then leave the church to "Back That Ass Up." :lmao:

[reminisce] I used to sprint home from school to catch Yo! Mtv Raps every day. I would even write down the song and artists they played. I'd love to find that notebook! Ah, precious memories! [/reminisce]
